This is a bag training drill we work together where we each hit for 30 seconds and then rest for 30 seconds. Our Kru taught us this to stay busy, busy, busy. I want to hit suckas with speed and power, going BTTW for 5 rounds. You better learn to recover during the 30 seconds off!
Our anaerobic conditioning and ability to keep good forward pressure during sparring is as a result of this drill. We use this crappy upper cut bag because its been encouraging us to step off to each side after striking and to set up angles before throwing round kicks or other!! We are both retired fighters, Mo is 35, and Im 39 bitch!
I still have 1 or 2 fights left in me before 5 points puts me out to pasteur with a gun shot to the back of the head!
Staying really busy for 30 seconds we seem to just throw rather than relax and take time to set up the perfect blow. Under these conditions, our obvious flaws surface, i.e. dropping our hands, backing up instead of angling off, chin up, etc.
We work this drill for 5 rounds followed by 5 rounds of light technical sparring drills to isolate various strikes and defensive moves 3 days a week. Feb. 25, 2008 (less)
