Pulled of the Dragon Sleeperhold

Orginal Post: BLACK PANTA: During live 100% sparring, I managed to pull off the Dragon Sleeperhold a la Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. It's like a reverse gullotine choke, when you're on your opponent's back. It's a hella painful choke.

Post: dscott:

Is it like a Camel Clutch a la Iron Sheik?>

Post: dscott:

Nevermind, I see what it's like. That does look painful.....and smelly.

Nice one mate. I love getting pro wrestling holds in grappling practice. My own personal favourite was when I tapped a guy with a single-leg boston crab. Still looking for that STF though...>

Post: zefff:

Is that dragon thing a choke or crank? Looks more of a crank from here? What does your hand do after its wrapped round the head? Is it clamped unto the other hand?>

I actually didn't do it like the pic. Imagine me on opponent's back, with hooks in. I wrap my arm around his neck only, not under the arm. I squeeze with my arms, and arch my back stretching my body. It's a choke, crank and body stretch.>

Chris Benoit's cross face crippler is also a good one to get. Zeff another thing about catch wrestling submissions. MOST, are crushing, cranking and pain subs.>

Hengest: If you got a crab, you can easily turn it into an STF or any other member of the step-over toe-hold family.

Everybody: Assuming single leg boston crab without opponent rolling to either side: place crabbed-leg's knee against the inside of your outside leg's thigh. "Step over" the opponent with the inside leg and place the inside of this thigh against the ankle/instep of opponent's trapped leg. Applying the lock while falling is a good way to torque something more than it should be torqued. Much like a triangle hold, squeeze your knees together, but in addition, turn into the ankle with your hips.

Assuming step-over toe-hold position: Reach across your opponent's body with your down arm and secure a facelock with both hands. STF. Slide the arm into the throat instead of across the face for a rear naked choke. STC. Reach across the opponent's body and pull the farside arm back into a Fujiwara armbar. Variant of Rings of Saturn.

The most convoluted things ever is to do the STF from a Sharpshooter. The Deathlock STF is one of those moves that evolved from Catch PURELY for the worked matches. The other ST-combination locks are actually fairly practically as the ST is a good way to hold your opponent in place and work for a more substantial lock. The ST alone won't do you too much good since the leg scissors (bulldog in Sambo) requires A LOT of strength and the rolling of the hips won't place any torque on the back like a Crab would. The STF is probably the most effective combination lock since a magical thing happens when you torque the leg and neck at the same time, the force moves down the spine to the upper lumbar region, bringing back that crab effect which is so devastating. The ST-Rings of Saturn has a similar effect in that it actually works much like an abdominal stretch, the wierdest submission pain you'll ever feel.

I like tinkering with combination locks because it's interesting to play with how the body links together. Sort of like Western, grappling-only koppojutsu for those of you familiar with budo taijutsu.>
