Orginal Post: Scragg: Be able to take more punches

Post: zefff:

push a power drill up your nose and watch as the front of your brain drops out. Then you wont feel or care about the punches anymore. :)>

Post: opariser1001:

once, a while back, the master of chi known only as setsu nin to gave us very special, secret advice on how to become tougher. it went something like this...

run yourself into a wall 50 times a day every day as hard as you can, and you will become tougher and it will strengthen your chi unimaginably. this and repeated groin shots will make you invincible.>

Post: :

LOL!

First, you are either tough or you're not. Tough is a state of mentality. Most people who are tough, don't act tough. They just get the job done, whatever it is. It maybe fighting to defend themselves or is maybe waking up at 5AM every morning to provide for your family. It maybe a dying cancer patient who still laughs.

If you want to be tough, live well, and don't be a pussy when you are faced with tough situations.

If you want to learn to take a punch, go take a punch. You'll find out REALLY quick if you can take one or not.

--------------------------

Now in regards to the question you're trying to ask. Strengthening your neck and traps helps. These keeps your head being rocked so much. Biting down on a good mouthpeice helps too, this keeps your jaw nice and tight.

But some people just have glass jaws and others can really take some big hits and keep going.>

AMEN.>

Post: Scragg:

What i meant was...how do the UFC fighters do it? They take alot of abuse before they get knocked out, whats their training like?>

Post: Bushi:

Eat rocks.

Anyone that can digest rocks is one tough MFer.>

Post: vladimir:

Sparring helps you get you used to be being hit, even if though your wearing gloves and pads.>

Post: :

Scragg, a lot of those punches aren't landing squarely, and the ones that do... KO.

Some people can also just take it. Theres really no way to "train" to take a punch. Neck exercises and the likes are good. Sparring helps you get accustomed to it, but you can't train to take a punch.>

Post: dscott:

You can't train your face. It's not like knuckles where as calcium builds up. Like Matt (FA.com) said, strengthen your neck. That's about it.

Professional fighters aren't able to take more abuse than anyone else before getting KO'd. However, they are able to slip punches and last longer in fights because they have those skills.>

Post: Tease T Tickle:

There's no such thing as tough. There's trained and untrained. If you can't take a punch, learn to make it so you never have to. Train that skill until it becomes second nature and your inability to take a punch no longer matters.

This can be as simple as smiling and making friends.>

Post: CraigS159:

It is a mental thing, if you get punched in the face your eyes are likely to water, it is due to the fact that you are not used to it and you feel that a punch to the face is not just physically painfull but is also mentally painfull. To get used to this: Wear head and hand protection and spar, this is the way to do it. It will take a few punches and you will be used to it.

Dont repetedly ask to be hit in the head as it could cause brain swelling and you will turn into a mental patient and eventually die.

Also remember that the best defence to a fight is to completely avoid it.>

Post: opariser1001:

oh god...ninja claws, i thought you were gone....we were all much happier. and remember, you're not funny.>

Post: norseart:

as stated before, being tough is mental, have your sparring partner punch you for two minute drills...fast and furious with only half strenght, build up to full blown shots...now you must block and get used to getting hit and overcoming the fear of being punched. This will bolster your confidence in your ability to defend yourself....now you punch your buddy for two minutes working on finding those holes and opening your opponent up. Mental...a fight is won in your head, you must believe you can win before you step up to anyone or you will get beat. Go over your head a hundred times the drill for defending against a front snap kick and how to counter...you went through your multiplication skills hundreds of times and now you can do it without hesitation....fighting is the same thing...review, review and review until you are comfortable and spar as much as possible to put those skills to practice. Good Luck... for those that think toughness is a birthright, try breaking a cinder block on your head and smile the first time....practice it a hundred times and you wont even feel it...are you any tougher....or perhaps you just cant feel the pain anymore and become accustomed to it...hence becoming tougher.>

Post: samurai6string:

The best way to get tough is to have a name like Sue, barring that.......eat rocks.>
