Key lock in real fight

Orginal Post: GrappleToWin: Has anyone here used a key lock in a real fight? Or any other locks besides armbars and such. Today before practice me and some friends were hmm how should i put this.... Rolling sounds good but we were striking with out gloves so basically real fighting cuz we were hitting as hard as we could and i easily took down my friend Colan whos a little bigger then me. I mounted him and of course he instantly tried to throw punches so I "went flat" chest to chest with him and put in a key lock I found it worked really effectivly because him being bigger and stronger and his Ego wouldnt let him think about my BJJ back ground....

I just wanted to know if anyone else has used any locks in a fight scenario besides the usual armbar/kimura....

Post: GrappleToWin:

doesnt make sence now i look at it. what the ego part ment was he figured because he was bigger then me that my BJJ background wouldnt matter. "ego">

Post: samurai6string:

I have 2 replies for you on this subject:
1. Locks and holds are meant as techniques to control another individual's agression. They are very effective for things such as police work/bouncing/first responders/etc., because of the ability to control and detain someone. In that sense, I have used wrist locks to great effect in accomplishing what I needed them to do, most times by just removing someone from a situation.

2. Keeping in mind that locks are meant to detain someone, I wouldn't be looking to get a lock on someone in a "true" streetfight situation. My first thought would be looking for a way out, or concentrating on what to do in order to force an escape. It seems to me that trying to go for a lock in an actually dangerous situation keeps you there too long, makes you too commited to the agressor or aggressors. If everything goes to hell, (which it usually does) and you end up in a wrestling match with a stranger who just tried to smash your head and steal your wallet, then by all means go for that kimura and pray that you tear out a joint, and shread some muscles.>

Post: Hengest:

Yeah, what 6string said.

Unless you're in security or law enforcement, I wouldn't be training to use such techniques in reality combat.>

Post: GrappleToWin:

nonono you mis understood me i didnt mean i was training like that i just said i used one in a sorta real fight situation. And well no duh lol i aint gonna use it in a "Real" real fight lol im gonna beat their head in like u said>

Post: Gangsta_Nerd:

I like you Grapple, so rest assured that I am not attempting to pick on you; but, if you don't plan on using a "lock" in a "'Real' real fight," why in the hell did you ask?

Your original post made it sound like you were talking about a "real" encounter, rather than a "training session."

Just asking
>

Post: bamboo:

To go right to the other side of things: I've used a keylock in a real situation, i slid beside/behind the person and the lock fell right into place. The person (gasp) grabbed me (you know, like everyone says will never happen , just like in aikido class?)

As a standing lock, its vicious, you can easily bring the person straight down on their face or bring it backwards and sweep the leg bringing them down straight on the back of the head.
The thing for me was that I didn't look for it, it happened, which is how I believe MAs are supposed to work?

nah u didnt read it right it wasnt a training session we were friggin around lol before lacrosse practice and i hit it.... but i would use it in a real fight if i thought of it>

[quote=GrappleToWin  but i would use it in a real fight if i thought of it [/quote

What? I'm confused, are you saying you "would" or "would not" use it in a real fight?

I personally would not commit myself to a keylock unless the guy leaves himself completely open to one. Otherwise, i see my face being pounded in while i'm trying to sink it in.>

[quote=GrappleToWin nah u didnt read it right it wasnt a training session we were friggin around lol before lacrosse practice and i hit it.... but i would use it in a real fight if i thought of it[/quote The irony of what you said here is "if I thought of it". You should NEVER try to think about what your "next move" is going to be. You should always train to react instinctively. This is called "staying in the present". You don't contaminate and cloud your mind with scenarios and outcomes that may or may not happen. If you stay in the present and react on instinct, then everything should fall into place and happen like they should - good or bad.>

Post: BLACK PANTA:

bottom line is whatever works in that real fight situation...use it. What a lot of people don't realize with locks is that you dont have to gently apply it. If you toruqe it and really apply it agressivly, you will either tear muscle or break joints/bones.>

Post: samurai6string:

Well Grapple, I suppose that the long and short of things is to take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself. Be an opportunist.>

to show what I mean, reference the latest video posted by dscott in the Multimedia forum. It is titled BJJ injury i believe>

I know,>

Post: zefff:

If a keylock is the most effective method of ending a 'real fight' at a particular time then use it. What I cant understand is the guy was battling away in this 'real fight' before lacross practice and didnt think to use his stick. Whats up with that? :?>

Post: Gazelle:

Maybe he didn't have it near/on him. Maybe they decided to go at it with no weapons. Maybe he did have his stick near him and was just too wound up in the moment to grab it, or he was too much delayed with his opponent to grab it. Only GrappleToWin can answer...but, i ask one thing of him/you (that is GrappleToWin), please be at least somewhat consistent. Reading the posts before it almost sounded like you saying things just to try and 'fit in' or go along with the crowd, if so, don't try to do so, you can gaurantee it will pretty much back fire. Be honest, and in the off-shot you get it wrong, admit it, no ones perfect, or knows everything, and if it's a matter of choice or opinion, then i am definately looking at a different world to what i was yesterday if everyone agrees on the same thing. On the other hand, if i have mis-read what you wrote, i apologise for the lecture. I promise i have the best of intentions!>

Post: GrappleToWin:

hahaha ya well i dont think the coach would appreciate me crackin Colan over the head with my stick lol but ya it wasnt near me it was in my locker... no Gazelle i dont really understand what u mean. i think i do lol but maybe not but hey lectures help out sometimes>

Post: GrappleToWin:

what i ment was i wouldnt think of it but if i did id use it.... and i guess im sorta an oppertunist cuz i throw ALOT of knees and elbows when the shots open.>

Post: Gazelle:

Don't worry about it, it was probably me getting the wrong end of the stick. I felt kind of bad for posting it anyway on the actual forum, perhaps pm would have been better.>

Post: zefff:

what kinda game is lacross anyway!!!!>

Post: Gazelle:

A game with sticks.>

Yeah, I've got a stick game or two I'd like to play with Elizabeth Hurley myself!!!  >

Bamboo watches it all spiral right into the gutter....>

Post: GrappleToWin:

EH is hot lol ok now to lacrosse i feel weird talking about lacrosse on a forum such as this but oh well. K lacrosse their are 3 midfeilds who run all around and play offence and defence theres 3 attackmen who can only go on the opponents side of the feild to score(so their only offence). Defense is self explanitory they protect our goal. get it? lol>

I think you mean hurling mate. A hurley is what you use to play hurling. :D>

I know what you mean though. It's a great sport. For speed and excitement, I think it's difficult to beat.

Not sure I completely understand the rules though...>

Post: zefff:

Yeah its great but we have to pay for Sentanta now. I think your allowed to grab the ball and run for 4 steps before putting it back into play on the hurley. Forget being a goaly in that game though! 8O>
