VERY interesting... How did you happen to find that article?
I just hope they don't make the statue look stupid...>

I am against the statue. I admire Bruce Lee very much, but if this is to calm the tension between Muslims and SERBS, not Croats, then this is not a good idea. In Islam, we DO NOT ERECT STATUES OF ANYONE. We see that as idolatry.>

I will just say that Mostar is not in Bosnia, its in Herzegovina...>

Oh okay, but still, I understand the sentiment, but couldn't they just put the money to better use instead of a statue. That is also a problem Muslims have with erecting statues. How about erecting an orphanage, use the funds towards rebuilding. In a couple of years no one will care about what the statue was made for, people will just see it as a cool statue of Bruce Lee.
There is an hadith in Islam about erecting statues. People erected statues of pious men, in honour of them.(I forgot the time period) However after some time passed, the generations to come eventually started to pray to the statues, forgetting the reason why the statues were erected. This is illegal in Islam, to pray to anything else other than God. This is Idolatry.>

here is the authenticated hadith explaining the passage from Surah Nooh in the Quran, from a Salafee Islamic website.
>
Quote: ?These were all idols from Nooh?s nation, which eventually ended up amongst the Arabs. Wadd was the idol which was worshipped by the Kalb tribe in the region of Dawmatul-Jandal; Suwaa? was for the Hudhayl tribe; Yaghooth by the Ghutayf tribe at Jurf near the region of Sabaa; Ya?ooq for the Hamdaan tribe and Nasr was the idol worshipped by the Dhul-Kalaa of the Himayr tribe. Indeed these five idols were the names of righteous men from the nation of Noah. When they died, Shaytaan whispered to their people to make statues of them in honour of them, and to place these statues in their places of gathering as a reminder of them, so they did this. However, none from amongst them worshipped these statues, until when that generation passed away and the purpose of the statues was forgotten, the next generation then began worshipping them.?

I don't think the story mentioned anything about the good people of Mostar converting to Leeism.>

All I'm saying is I don't see where your comments about praying to statues come in, cos I don't think the citizens of Mostar are going to start praying to the Bruce.
Anyway, forgive my ignorance, but is Mostar 100% muslim?>

Not to my knowledge. I've learned from my bosnian friend that there is a river that literally seperated the Serbs, from the Croats/bosnians.>

It's a shame that neither Bruce or Brandon are alive to see it... :(>
Post: dscott:
I read somewhere that it's actually already been vandalized. The chain for the nunchuk's chain and one handle were missing and beer/wine bottles were scattered all around it.>
Post: setsu nin to:
Yes, one "stick" and half of chain are stolen...>
Post: setsu nin to:
Oh and once again, stature is in Herzegovina not Bosnia.>

I don't make the news....I just report it.>

ahhhggggg my eyes!!! too bright!! bronze shouldn't be polished, it needs to age like a fine cheese, turning green/black with hints of white over time. smooth and shiny does not make good art. they should have bronzed his corpse, at least that would have been interesting.>
Post: BLACK PANTA:
buiken they should bronze you alive, and then use you as a bird bath.>

Being from Sarajevo myself, i don't think a statue is going to do much to ease any sort ot tension there is in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbs, Croats, and Muslims are all pretty stubborn and hard headed.>
Post: buicken:
i would prefer to be used as a pissing lawn fountain, or lantern jockey.>
