for all you jkd guys. when people ask you wut art you study, do u say u study jkd? i bring up this question cuz there are so many different reactions possible. or do u say u study mma? from personal experience, im tempted to stop saying i study jkd when people ask...

Post: confusingDot:

i don't even train in any studio, or that of JKD place. But when people ask, i might say taht i study jkd. overall, i like to say taht i study the kinesiologoy, physiology, and kinematics of martial arts.>

Post: Fa Jing:

I tell them Martial Arts, if their just someone looking for trouble or something i dont say anything. But if their just curious i say MA or tell them what i acutally take if they want to get into a conversation.>

Post: DARKTIM:

i say i study MA just like katsu. if they say what kind? i say jkd/jkd concepts/ they then say whats that i explain further. the full jun fan/jkd thing and they're like wow!!!.

:D then its about 100 questions fired at you about it and what it entails. i say everything. they ask whether you could teach them how to do it. i say i can only show you something that you will have to find your own intupritation of. then the jawdrops. cause its like whats this secret art he knows? ha ha ha i actually like people asking me. it shows they're interested.

as katsu said when someone is looking for trouble i say shit. BUT if there is someone who knows i do MA whos with someone who's looking for a bit. and its "whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaa come on kung fu boy" i just smile, have a little chuckle  <------------like that. and slowly get into on guard. ha ha i fuckin love that part.

i like it when people ask me whats IN jkd. and when you tell them its the good bits of umteen arts and tell them what the arts are. they sit down and just soak it up. ive got about 4 people at the mo how are now so into it they're going to come down to the gym and sign up.

sorry if i rambled abit.

lol theres a guy at my job that when to pro wrestling camp last year in Pensi Cola florida. He's always "show me a kungfu chop" or some shit like that. i just say "i cant, your stone cold stunner would drop me before my hand moved">

Post: Hengest:

Sometimes I'll say it's JKD if I'm with people who I think may have heard of it, but otherwise I usually say it's just "kung fu". I realise that's way off base but, let's face it, if they haven't heard of JKD, they're probably not going to know much about kung fu either.>

Post: Stg:

i say i study jkd. not that i don't realize that according to lee you can't "study" jkd,but the people who ask usually can't tell karate apart from wushu anyway,so i figure i shouldn't bother saying it in a more technical term>

Post: Yoda:

Hi all

To be honest I'm sometimes embarrased to admit that I'm a JKD guy these days. I usually just say I do all sorts of stuff and leave it at that. Truth be known the vast majority of what I do these days is either MMA or FMA based anyhow.>

Post: dscott:

I usually just say I study Martial Arts. Then they say " Oh....Karate?" I think that's all the non-practicing public know, Karate. Then I just say "no, it's a mix and match of a bunch of different arts but my core art is Wing Chun.">

Post: MileHighMadMan:

I study "Fighting!">

Post: Italian Monk:

My response to this type of question is 'life-style' ... with a devious smile 8)

Post: V-for-Vendetta:

I tell them "freestyle fighting">

Post: nbotary:

I tell them the same thing Bruce said in his book "JKD is NOT a style". It amazes me how many people have actually read the last page in Tao of Jeet Kune Do - Bruce's own words written in black and white - and will say they study/teach JKD...

It's a philosophy on fighting - not a style of fighting.>

Guys, this thread is over 2 years old. I doubt the OP is still looking for responses....>
