Orginal Post: Umy: well it seems the boxing section has pretty much died a death so I decided Id contribute at least something while im in here, I often get asked the question 'what's the best fight you've ever seen' , not rocky balboa and Mr.T but Ive listed a few you must watch in your time, but really I want to see what you guys would recommend, here are a few to get things started:

Artutro Gatti vs Mickey ward I,II and maybe III : These fights (especially the first) were pure non-stop action from bell to bell. Its one of those fights you have to see to believe

Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns: Pure brawling from the bell, 3 rounds of intense action, both men had names to live up to and went against what most people thought would happen for 3 action packed, legendary rounds

Riddick Bowe vs Evander 'im going to nut you' Holyfield I,II and III: One of the greatest heavyweight trilogies since Ali - Frazier (which is also on my list of must see's :) )

Leonard vs Hearns: Tactical battle
Pryor vs Arguello: A good fight, a lot of action from the bell onwards.
Tyson Vs Douglas: The fight that shocked the world, Iron Mike melted, good performance by Douglas who's mother passed away a while before the fight.

Instructor and school gone. Help?

Orginal Post: FallenxAngel66: I attend a place called Fairtex, or I should say I used to attend Fairtex. I went to go take class yesterday and I found out that it closed down! No one notified me or anything. Basically, Fairtex (at least the one I go to) has BJJ, Boxing, and Muay Thai. I was training in boxing under this guy named Paris. He was a great instructor. I know that before he went pro he won the Golden Gloves at least twice and later on he became the Cal St. and US Lightweight Champ. Anyway, nobody knows where he went and the Muay Thai guys went over to this place called Fitness West. Fitwess West has a ton of workout equip along with a boxing program. The main problem is that their boxing program focuses mainly on staying in shape as opposed to actual combat. I can't continue classes with my old instructor b/c I'm not sure where he is and I don't want to take the "boxing" classes available there (To me, it seems like Tae Bo). I don't know of any other boxing schools in the area (South San Francisco, Daly City, Colma, etc). As a last resort, I may have to switch over to Muay Thai. Even if I do switch, I would like to keep up the boxing somehow. Does anybody have any suggestions? It'd really be appreciated.

Edit:
The instructor for one of the boxing classes at Fitness West (one of the only ones I'm considering) is from the "Frisco Boxing Team". Info on this would be awesome. Thanks! :D

Check it out if you get a chance. I guess this is broken out into two episodes. I watched the first episode last night. It's very interesting. I can't say I agree with most of the things he's said or done, but in a way, I understand why he feels the way he does.

I am really proud of him and would just like to announce it.

Orginal Post: Umy: If you guys have been following the lower divisions lately you may have heard of this bout, this is actually the first time in a while that I have looked forward to a bout.

Manny Pacqiauo aka 'pacman' of the phillipines will be facing Juan manuel marquez tonight.

For those of you who dont know pacman was the guy who not so long ago beat pound for pound fighter marco antonio barrera, who even earlier beat Englands very own prince naseem hamed.

This will hopefully be an exciting fight and im looking forward to hearing the winner of the bout, heck I may actually bother watching this bout

Just look at pacman's current shape:

122lbs of muscle

Also check this out, speak of mike tyson coming back:
http://www.maxboxing.com/Kim/kim0423a04.asp

What do you think? Will it be nice to see Iron Mike back again and clean up a division that is looking pretty bad?

I think boxing needs a bit more of Iron Mike before he packs it in.

Orginal Post: azreil: I know, I know another reality series, but it is diffrent for me this time because it is boxing. I was an amatuer boxer for many years, then I found myself in a place with no boxing community, so I started training in MA again. Now there are try-outs this week in a city near me and I don't know if I should go. I found out about them just now so no time to properly prepare.

First, I haven't trained boxing style(except shadowboxing) for a while now, so I am not "fighting" fit right now.

Second, I can skip the auditions and train, but then I have to send in a video(with a more fit me) before the deadline.(no in-person impression)

What is ya'lls advice go to the audition now or train and just send in a video with the fitting fit me on it.

P.S. Just becuase I am not in "Fighting" condition does not mean I am not in shape though. just not in the shape I would be in for a match. (takes me at least 3 GOOD weeks training if not more(the longer the match the more time).

Some Cus D'amato Quotes from the Movie Tyson
Original Poster: The BadBoy
Forum: Kickboxing & Boxing Forum
Posted On: 14-04-2004, 11:05

Orginal Post: The BadBoy: Tyson is driving the car with Cus in it and Cus gives directions back to Camille Ewald?s house in the Catskills. "Don?t worry about being scared going into a fight. It?s when you ain?t scared that?s the time to worry. Fear is the friend of every good and reasonable athlete."

Tyson is in bed trying to sleep. Cus opens the door. "What is the difference between a hero and a coward? There ain?t no difference. Inside they?re both exactly alike. They?re both scared of dying or getting hurt. It?s what the hero does that makes him a hero. What the other guy doesn?t do makes him a coward."

Tyson does roadwork, works on the speedbag, does crunches with Teddy Atlas, and skips rope. There is a voiceover of Cus. "When two men step into the ring, one and only one deserves to win. When you step into the ring, you gotta know you deserve to win. You gotta know destiny owes you victory ?cos you trained harder than your opponent. You sparred harder. You ran farther.

Tyson works the heavy bag as Cus observes from above."Always keep your chin tucked down into your chest. I don?t care if you are running roadwork or just walking around school or watching T.V. Keep that chin tucked down. And your eyes looking up and out."

Cus and Tyson watch fight films."One word describes Rocky Marciano. Tenacity. Only one hundred eighty seven pounds but to this day he remains the only undefeated heavyweight champion. How? Because he would not imagine he could lose. He would not even allow the concept of defeat to enter his mind."

Tyson sparring as Cus observes."Don?t watch the glove; watch the chest. Wait for the glove to move, you?re dead. When the chest flexes, you bob."

Cus and Tyson watch fight films."Joe Louis may have been quiet on the outside, but on the inside ? pure rage. He was a Negro in a white man?s world and he hates it. Up and down the street, twenty four hours a day."

Tyson works the slip bag with Cus."Stay in constant motion. The head ain?t never again where he last seen it. See, you give him a target here and by the time he swings, it ain?t there anymore. But when he moves, counter. Hap! Fire to the ribs, huh. Hap! Bap! Four-one, upstairs."

Tyson shadowboxing and also working on the slip bag."You don?t get hit, you don?t lose. It?s as simple as that. Once you learn to stay low and tuck behind your gloves, in constant motion, no one is gonna be able to land nothing."

Tyson in bed. Cus opens the door. Scene shifts to Cus and Tyson watching fight films."Lies and deceit. Subterfuge. That?s what we deal in. Don?t ever let anyone know your real intentions. Champion fighters, champion liars. Best in the world."

Tyson got back from his mother?s funeral. He is on a ladder and finished putting up a birdcage outside Camille?s house. Cus crosses the street and approaches Tyson. Cus: "Mike, do you know what a professional is?" Tyson: "Someone gets paid to?" Cus: "It has nothing to do with money. A professional is a guy who performs no matter what he?s feeling inside. You understand me? No matter what."

Should headguards be used in amateur boxing?
Original Poster: The BadBoy
Forum: Kickboxing & Boxing Forum

Orginal Post: The BadBoy: Personally I hate them. They slip and cover your eyes. They impair you peripheral vision.

The older ones soak up sweat and make them real heavy. This extra weight then gives you a whiplash effect every time you get hit in the head. Makes bobbing and weaving that much more difficult.

Then when your training if someone has it on then the sparring partnes sees it as some invitation to throw the strongest bombs he possilby can thinking its not gonna hurt his opponent. Can someone please remind me why we have to wear them?

Some of my friends from school told me a little bit about the "Golden Gloves" boxing comp. in SF (San Francisco). I mentioned it to my boxing instructor and he's won twice.

Basically, I'd like to learn more about the competition. Like the real, full name, amount of people that compete, etc. Replies and help are appreciated.
