Orginal Post: kranker66: -As most fighters are 'righties', when a fight with a southpaw comes up why does a southpaw seem to have an advantage?
...doesn't the southpaw feel unothrodoxed against a right-handed fighter? It doesn't make sense. :?

Since the southpaw has no doubt been training with righties his entire career and has fought a good number of righties (I think the rate for left handedness in the general population is something low like 10% ), he is plenty experienced against people with stronger rights.
On the other hand (pun intended), the righties have been fighting and training with righties and has only maybe run into two or three lefties, if even that many. So, he doesn't know how to deal with somebody throwing power shots from the oppositie hand and moving in the opposite direction to set up those power shots. It's a totally new experience and it can throw off strategies and tactics that have been used well in the past.>

Actually I'm a southpaw and you want to know whats really weird? Fighting other lefties.
I'm so used to training and sparring with orthodox fighters that when my partner is left-handed it just throws me off at first until I get the hang of it again.>
