Orginal Post: samurai6string: Anyone here know much about or ever heard of/encountered any of the Chi Lin systems? I've seen Chi Lin Chuan Fa, Chi Ling Pai Gong Fu, and Chi Lin Kenpo.

Knew nothing about it until I saw your post and Googled it. I notice they do that really annoying mixing of Chinese and Japanese terms, which always puts me off cos it makes me think its just another hotch-potch of stuff thrown together by some nobody who wants to call himself "Grandmaster". That said, I'm willing to give it a chance. So what's 6string's view? Good, bad, indifferent?>

well, there are some students here in this area of the country where I am. My jujutsu sensei said that one of the first generation masters in our area is a good kung fu guy that he has known for years, but that was about it. I know that the man who started the system itself has been put down quite a bit because he was allegedly a homosexual. He died about 10 years ago of a heart attack. I think the mixing of the terms in Japanese and in English is because of the fact that he, Dennis Decker, studied Judo and Karate before getting into Chinese arts. I noticed that 3/4 of his original students call themselves either "sifu" or "master," while the remaining 1/4 call themselves "sensei" and teach Chi Lin Kempo. I don't believe for the most part that the organization is McDojo-esque because the couple of students that I know literally had to seek out the "master" in our area, and he doesn't own a school, and basically teaches them for peanuts in between working with at risk kids, his job, and time with his family. Some of the other "masters", I don't really know about. It seems that the style is basically animal forms Kung Fu, with some internal, taiji style forms as well. My mind doesn't really go one way or another on it, that's why I was wondering if anyone else knew some more about it.>
