Orginal Post: angryrocker4: Hey guys, I have a friend at work whos thinking of taking Kung fu, and he found this place and was wondering if it was worthwhile from the looks of it.
http://www.shaolinkempostudios.com/ Im doing Budo taijutsu personally so I know nothing about chinese kung fu and if a place is reputable or not. thanks
I've never heard of the place; but just by that opening animation; I would say there are probably better schools out there.>
Post: BLACK PANTA:
Well first of Shaolin Kempo is not Kung Fu. It's Kempo, and it should actually be called Shorinji Kempo. Kempo is japanese for Chuan Fa. So I would say no, this is not a good school to go to, if he wants real KF. What state and city are you in?>
Post: angryrocker4:
He's in dry ridge,KY. Im a good 20 miles away north>
Post: BLACK PANTA:
Kentucky eh, what ever you do DO NOT GO TO SHAOLIN DO..... You, well he should look for a school with a legit lineage for one thing. I'm not familiar with Kentucky, I just love their chicken. Also check out the school with your buddy, and discuss as to what feelings you guys have about any school there. If you sence bullshit, there's definately bull shit.>
Post: angryrocker4:
Well, I've done the search thingy and cant find any other places so I guess he's screwed as far as it goes if the place is BS.
Maybe I'll buy him a video set for christmas :)>
Post: angryrocker4:
Right when I got home i tried again and came up with this... http://www.nkyshaolindo.com/ it says drunken immortals on there, thats supposed to be "rare" or hard to find right? Im gonna tell my boy at work about this one friday, it seems likely to be legit. thanks for any opinions on this one>
Post: Ninja Kl0wn:
angryrocker4, you would be a horrible friend to point him toward that school.>
Post: angryrocker4:
Which one? and what stuff should I have him look for as far as lineage goes? and should he stay away from all shaolin stuff? I dont want to see him waste time or money, hes wanting it as a sport/fitness thing, but I'd like to have him go somewhere respectable at least. are there any directories that may help a bit?>

[quote="BLACK PANTA" Kentucky eh, what ever you do DO NOT GO TO SHAOLIN DO..... [quote
I made sure to say this to you man.....AGAIN DO NOT GO TO SHAOLIN DO...>
Post: wuming:
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO SHAOLIN DO!
(I am not trying to sound like an ass with the caps, I just want to make sure I got your attention)
These guys have no idea what they are talking about. There is too much wrong with these guys for me to go into great detail now, but try and find our old shaolin do discussions on the board -- I think they are in the McDojo section. And no, your friend should not stay away from all Shaolin stuff. In my opinion Shaolin Do is not even related to Shaolin (even though they claim they are, presonally I do not believe them in the slightest bit). Just make sure he steers completely and utterly clear of Shaolin Do -- hell he should in fact just turn and run in the other direction.
As far as lineage goes, you want to find a credible lineage and I can't really tell you any more until I know what system you are talking about (and I don't know too much about differen't systems' lineages except for mine and a little about Wing Chun).[/b >
Post: wuming:
Oh and by the way...
I forgot to mention anything about that site. Those guys there remind me all too much of Shaolin Do. In my opinion I would stay away from that place also. I'm sure you can find some authentic Chinese ma schools around your area somewhere it might just take a little time. I know it took my friend awhile to find his Wing Chun school because they don't advertise or anything. Your friend should stay away from videos also unless it is an absolute last resort.>

[quote=angryrocker4 and what stuff should I have him look for as far as lineage goes?[/quote
I'm no expert on kung fu lineage; I'll leave that to Wills or somebody else here that's more knowledgable than I. However, I would say, if your friend is looking to study kung fu, then, as a rule, he'll want to avoid any school that mixes up Chinese and Japanese terms, e.g. Shaolin Do, Shaolin Kenpo, etc., because he won't be getting authentic kung fu. At best, he'll be getting one of many hybrid systems that mix and match techniques to make yet another run-of-the-mill style. At worst, he'll be getting pure McDojo stuff to be avoided like the plague.>
Post: angryrocker4:
Good stuff setsu, It'd be him and his money though but this one does look like a bull dog. http://home.insightbb.com/~shaolinkempostudios/8.jpg
Im just gonna tell him to find something else since all the internet stuff I've found is junk or points to everything in our area being crap.>

Post: BLACK PANTA:
LMAO those instructors look legit man. I mean I would love to be trained by a 13 year old master.>
Post: angryrocker4:
in defense of my ignorance, they're assistants....not much of a defense really but a decent try i believe :oops:>
Post: nbotary:
Dude - that is an awesome McDojo!! Can I get fries with my belt?!?! I've been around the block a few times and I like to think that I can tell the difference between a legit school and a bullshit one. Sorry, but "Shaolin Kenpo" is total bullshit.
However, I did like the flash animation video of the guy who just stood there and let the "instructor" wail away on him... :roll:>
Post: goongaloonga:
nbotary is right, I think "shaolin kenpo" is the same crap that this guy villari does, it's from another mcdojo post>
Post: nbotary:
I forgot to supersize my order...
Okay, my order again:
1. 1 - large ass whuppin';
2. 4 mismatched colored uniforms with school name on it;
3. 1 - large "L" branded on my forehead for attending such a "school";
4. 1 - large depletion of funds in bank account as result of paying for bullshit;
5. Rank of "dan" or "sifu" from said school so I can open my own McDojo.
This is to go - and don't forget the napkins, straw and kiddie toy this time - bi-atch!!!>
Post: angryrocker4:
