Collapsible Baton Brands

Orginal Post: 8LimbsScientist: I'm looking for good brands for collapsible batons that will still be affordable. I'd like to keep it in my car or on my person in certain situations for self defense purposes.

I would go with ASP, but they are pretty expensive. Are there cheaper alternatives that serve the same purpose, or is this an instance where you need to spend the money to get quality?

Post: zefff:

I dunno nothing about brands but I found rigid ones are good for defence as well as attack but dont last more than a couple of 'sessions'. I guess it depends on the materials. I hate the cheaper foam grip too.

The ball on the end of a spring type are great for getting past raised arms to hit the target but there is a newer type (I think its a German design) where the whole extendable section is one tightly coiled spring that hits you like 10 times for each swing you take as it reverberates against the target surface. 8) I'd imagine the stiffer spring allows for better defensive manouevers too, if thats your thing.

Sorry I cant help with brands. Over hewar they are illegal.>

These are two companies that make extendable batons that I found,

-VestGuard
-Monadnock>

Like it was said above you could get a Monadnock, which are just as expensive as an ASP. Of course you could go with the ASP which I prefer. It gives you the benefit of the Steel Baton which is what most LEO carry or you can go with the Air Weight which is silver once opened and is light as a feather and has the same strength as a steel baton, they also have the Electroless which is the same as a steel but is for LEO that work in bad weather environments, basically it wont rust.

If you go to http:// www.Galls.com you can purchase any of the batons there and also Galls own brand of expandable batons are made by ASP, but there a hell of a lot cheaper.

You can also find them at QuarterMaster.com. Just pick the right size 16?, 21?, 26? or the big boy 31?.>

Post: JC1007:

ASP and Monadnock are the two best ones out there. I was also going to point out that Galls sells their own brand that is made by ASP. :) I carry a 26" on duty and a 16" off duty. I like the 16", it tucks nicely into a pocket.

Make sure you know what your state law is though. I'd hate for you to get pulled over and then find out that having a baton, expandable or otherwise, is a crime.>

Post: yoda1:

Thanks JC1007 I forgot to mention the force curriculum when it comes to actually using a baton. Everyone needs to no there state use of force policy.>

Post: NathanRahl:

They are super cheap over here in China, you can get a decent baton for about 28 rmb, which is about 3.50 cents, man do I love china :)>
