Orginal Post: Dirty_Irishman: Since most people don't have a concealed carry permit, I was wondering what you guys carry for personal protection on the streets, or even at home for that matter.

Right now I'm a delivery driver part time at Papa John's. I carry an assortment of knives...most of them longer than allowed...and behind my seat I keep a 28" oak stick. At home its pretty much the same deal except its a rattan stick and Rambo-esque Buck knife.

I have a friend that carries a tactical baton but says its bothersome to conceal. And of course all of my family members swear by pepper spray and "personal alarms." But personally I believe that if someone's trying there hardest to hurt you I think you should give them the same effort.

Post: bamboo:

I carry my head high and am confident in my stride.

I am aware of my surroundings and don't put myself into compromising situations.

I do not carry weapons.

I also live in pretty civilized city, and winter keeps the criminal elements inside most of the time.

Post: zefff:

I dont carry anything either but if I know I have to go somewhere dodgy I will wear good shoes that I can be effective in, just incase. :)

At home I have a few machetes and sticks about the place but I would not look to kill someone over my TV.>

Post: Tease T Tickle:

How many people do you think that carry a gun have a permit for it?
It's nice that you want to be law abiding since that helps you avoid trouble, but let's get serious here. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean you might not want to consider it.>

"I carry an assortment of knives...most of them longer than allowed...and behind my seat I keep a 28" oak stick."

When you realy learn how to use knife you will realise all adventages of smaller knives. Technique will save your life not size of knife or stick.>

Post: Dirty_Irishman:

Mine are smaller, but here only a 3 inch blade is legal, my two fixed blades that I carry on me are both larger, one is 3.75" and the other is 5.25". But I've been carrying the 5.25 less lately.

And Tease I would carry a gun, but I can't seem to not speed when I drive for some reason. And cops just love pulling me over...a lot. Knives are easier to explain, and cheap enough that I don't mind getting 1 or 2 taken away.>

You know, I want to believe that you're a good guy, but when you say, "pulling me over," I don't immediately equate that with, "Frisk me and search my vehicle." How do you manage to find yourself in situations where you need to explain away a knife or have it confiscated?>

Post: Dirty_Irishman:

Haven't had one confiscated yet. Did have to explain one because it was sitting in my passenger seat and I got pulled over for running a stop sign. I had been working back to back and driving an hour round trip to my house and back to work, I was so tired I didn't see the sign in time and just whipped around the corner...cutting off a cop in the process. Now I normally carry the legal length ones all the time, and just stow the fixed blades until I get out of the car. Then it depends on where I'm going. Most of the places I deliver aren't that bad, except at 1 in the morning when all the drunk frat boys, crack fiends, and meth junkies start ordering.>

Post: bamboo:

Irishman,

See if you can get a buddy to ride with you for the dodgy late nights, its far better to have a friend watching your back than a weapon.

Gas just went up to $3 a gal here yesterday so I think I'm going to be finding a new job anyway.>
