Orginal Post: CraigS159: I would like to know your oppinions as to which type of nunchaku you prefer. Wheather string or chain, wood or acrylic.
I have acrylic with a chain and I believe that they are heavy, possibly making them a bit slower than wood or aluminium, however I dont believe that this is such as an important fact as they still move fast and no one if going to want to get in the way. I also believe that as they are heavier they help build up muscle strength. I have never used a string type of nunchaku and it would be intresting if anyone has and what they thought of them compared to the chain.

What does this have to do with "real fighting"?>

Ok I forgot to put it in the martial arts weapon section.
TKD Man: It has everything to do with real fighting as the nunchaku is a weapon, just like everything else.>

So do you carry your nunchaku around, in case you get in a "real fight"? Shit, I wouldn't even consider it a practical weapon. My econ textbook is 10x more practical as 1) I'm more likely to have it on hand and 2) I don't have to worry about it hitting me after I hit my opponent with it.
That said, I'd want the heaviest fucking nunchaku I could swing so that when it hits his head he goes down and it doesn't whip back and hit me too.>

Craig, the Real Fighting section is mainly devoted to what has become known as "reality" training, e.g. methods espoused by people such as Geoff Thompson, Tony Blauer, Peyton Quinn, Jamie O'Keefe, etc. The nunchaku is not a weapon commonly used in reality or self-defence training, and therefore this thread does not belong in that section.>
Post: EscrimaConcepts:
Geoff Thompson and alot of reality fighters are good friends with my Chief Instructor, Master Steve Tappin, of Escrima Concepts. I speak to Geoff every so offer through Steve and emails to Geoff. Both men have huge amounts of talent and are both brutally honest.
Fighting doesn't get any more real than these two.
