Orginal Post: dscott: I'd like to hear opinions on this place. I stopped in it the other day to check it out and I was sort of "overwhelmed" by the instructor. He came up to me right away and was trying to get me to attend an introductory class.

What a space!!! Probably toilet there is bigger than all my Dojo...>

Post: 8LimbsScientist:

Take a look at the picture in the "Kung Fu" section entitled Ho Bar Do. The expression on their faces should tell you whether or not you'd like to spend several hours a week there.

"Squirrel Attack!!!!!!!!!">

Post: Hengest:

"The few early written references show that (Jujutsu's) origins date back to mythology."

Is it just me or is that one of the dumbest sentences you've ever read? :?>

I saw that too. I don't know what they're supposed to look like but either way they look like chipmunks ready to pounce.>

Post: zefff:

ROFLMAO! I thought u meant these guys

but when I saw this pic I nearly wet my pants. I luv the girl 2nd from right. She looks like shes having a great time.

Post: dcohen:

LOL!!! AHHH!!!

That is so priceless.

Dscott, feel free to come by and train in our Allston or Braintree class sometime if you're interested in that kind of thing. I'll make sure you don't pay a cent. Take it to PM if you're interested.

My god. Squirrels.

-Dave>

Post: bamboo:

I'm sorry but this is not aikido (at least in this pic, maybe the curriculum is better?). It looks like the beginning to an ura technique but the feet, hips and shoulders are all in the wrong place since uke cannot be led around. Elbows should be relaxed and down otherwise he has to use strength to drag uke, should be the weight of his own body. The funny thing is, the guy being "locked" is in a much more stable position to throw the "locker" using a standard "kokyu nage" or breath throw.

Whats this? Shoto zume? An incredibally unorthodox and awkward nikkyo variation? This lock should be done with the lead hand completely, using only the back hand for minimal support.

Heres the right way:
or

Their are of course other variations.>

What do you train in?>

Post: 8LimbsScientist:

He trains in Systema. One thing though...there is a definate lack of Squirrel Attacks in Systema :(

I'm going to add a Chipmunk Punch to Muay Thai.>

Post: Umy:

ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!

Oh man, these guys are deadly, why dont we have a squirrel hook in boxing?>

Post: 8LimbsScientist:

Come train with me, UMY, I can teach you the Thai Chipmunk Punch.

Are there Chipmunks in Thailand? If not they'll never expect this technique.>

Post: setsu nin to:

How they get such space, that just isnt fair....
I dream for space like that for years...

Also did you noticed samurai sword master in action?

He looks like butcher who just escape from lunetic.>

"Practicing this form develops coordination, muscle flexibility and helps to prevent arthritis and rheumatism in the joints."

So thats why Japanese gods and goddesses didnt suffer from arthritis or rheumatism in the joints.>

DON'T SAY THAT!!!!

I'm officially adding a new type of movement - a blend of chipmunk, squirrel, and (yes! You guessed it!) guinea pig evasive and furious attacking techniques.

May god have mercy on my soul for this terrible creation.

Pls stop joking and have some respect to samurai butcher (actualy he is Ninja, but dont tell that to anyone)>

Post: wuming:

Lol omg, this school reminds of the Shaolin-Do guys again.

First of all they make the all too common mistake of saying that "kung fu" is a system of fighting. I can't explain enough how much that annoys me. Second of all, they try and teach complex internal sytems on the side. This again is ridiculous becuase internal arts require years of dedication to practice and can not be taught as a side art as anyone who practices any internal art can vouch for. And lastly, I am sick of these people teaching Pa Kua with no idea what they are talking about. This guys said that they do not practice any static postures. That is proposturous. In my school we train static postures to build leg strength because any Pa Kua fighter needs really strong legs. Our legs need to be strong for power, root, and speed. I just don't understand.....>

Post: setsu nin to:

I still cant belive that such nice place for practicing... Its so big, with nice tatami, they have nice gim there also....

How many of you practice some great place like that?>

Post: zefff:

Not me! Always have trained in crumy conditions :( Worst building but best school I trained at had pigeons and bats nesting in the rafters! The drafts were terrible in winter.>

Our dojo used to be a "24 hour" laundry mat well known for having hookers turning tricks in the bathroom. Since we took over, we have had several letters of thanks from the surrounding churches and community.

We are actually in the process of repainting and fixing up the dojo.

Post: zefff:

Somebody say hookers? man I need to stop playing GTA San Andreas 8)>

Post: bamboo:

I contacted them and asked about qualifications and rank (who gave it to them) concerning the aikido curriculum...well 3rd dan in 10 years? They would not give me names, affiliations, just that they got 3rd dans from the "mind and body" system....

ahem.>

Post: 8LimbsScientist:

Ahhh...THAT system...well, I guess that settles it, these guys are the real deal.>

Post: TigerPaw:

Cool, Extended joints during qi gong, at least it looked like it on the standing excercies. I've heard that's real healthy.

They dont count Bagua and Tai-chi as Kung Fu?

And when you press Kung Fu, it says nothing about their particular style, more than they claim it to be southern... To be honest, sites like that scare me.

"Cool. What style do you practice?"
"Kung Fu."
"oh, What style?"
"Kung Fu!"
"err.. 'Wudan' or 'Shaolin'? Southern shaolin? Northern shaolin? What?"
"Kung Fu!!!"
etc. :(

I dont care if they dont have a lineage or whathave you , Aslong as they tell me what the hell they're practicing.. Or at least where it's from so I might have a clue or find out.. "Kung Fu"(as many posters so nicely put it) doesnt really tell me much. Neither does Shaolin, I see a helluva lot differences when comparing a style that claims to be from 'modern shaolin
and styles that claim to be from classic/old shaolin.. Anyway, I'm done whining.

Thank you for reading/not reading.>
