Orginal Post: opariser1001: Okay, I happened to catch this crap on ESPN2....oh God it was funny. Now here's my problem. I've seen Kyokushin guys break tons of bricks and this and that, but Kyokushin is a hard style that specializes in making the body extremely tough and withstanding punishment.
And then I see these people at the "World Breaking Championships" doing the same stuff and it looked as if they weren't even trying....
For example, there's two stacks of like 12 patio blocks or something, (and I know how hard it is to break patio blocks) and this old guy just like stands between the stacks and drops his tricep onto them and they both collapse easily. (No, he didn't ELBOW them, he TRICEPPED them).
How can this be?
I just don't get it.
And here, here's a picture of some people from Chip Townsend's school (apparently, he holds 11 World Championship Breaking titles.......)

god...if anyone can explain this to me, I'd appreciate it.
And oh yeah, there was another old guy who put a spearhand through a solid wood door....come ON!
Please explain!

ahh man I caught one of those shows once and it made me upset.
the blocks are probably made from an altered ingredients mix and baked till they are brittle as a Jacobs cracker. The door is probably some soft Spruce or Balsa...or maybe its for real and you are weak?>

I watched one of those a few months ago. The only near-impressive break I saw was this dude shoulder charging through several blocks of ice, each probably six inches thick. Even if the ice was nearly-melted and easy to break, it was cool looking.
Breaking is about as straight as eight guys blowing nine, anyway, so I didn't get bent out of shape by it.>

Man, you guys need to quit drinking hateraide, I mean what possible reason could these guys have for misrepresenting their martial prowess???? :) I mean come on, anyone with a bit of sense can tell that those three kids are an elite fighting force and, someday, our Delta force will be replaced by button nosed, rosy cheeked killing machines.>

A lot of these breakers are breaking boards as their means of profession, so I wouldn't be too surprised to hear what they're doing, but I do have to admit that a tricep break - if legitimate - is pretty absurd. I happen to train with Leif Becker's (he just recently about 480 boards in a minute, making a new world record) brother and he has told me how much Leif had worked out to be in his breaking shape.
I can also attest to the amount of time and specialization in training that these breakers take upon themselves. Leif Becker used to belong to my particular tang soo do organization so I had seen him at local tournaments and he had the build of your average athlete. However, after he began his training with team bergamo he became a pretty big guy. But I mean, Hell, if I had 8 hours a day to train I'd be breaking boards, patio blocks, doors, 2x4's, and my neighbor's house-foundation.>

is that the one with the dude that looked like a rhino and hi gi was torn? That did look cool.>

He was a pretty beefy dude, but he didn't have a horn, so I wouldn't say he looked like a rhino. I don't remember if his gi got torn or not.>
