Orginal Post: Sirc: Is their style of "karate" legit? I mean it's not even really karate, it's supposedly a chinese art.
It's Sho Shou kung fu. Is this even real? I took a few classes from them and I don't know if it's truly a real art as I can't really find anything on it.
Also, from what I can find it's the same as any other hyped up MA. "It was the art of the royal guards... blah blah blah."
Anyone?

Hard to tell since you didn't provide any other important information... Do you have a website for us or a link to some other info. on the school?>
Post: Sirc:
Well if you look up Shou Shu on Google, everything about it comes from their (Moore's Karate) or one of their sister schools.
Here's their main page:

From what I gather from their site, it is not something that is taught except in their schools. Apparently it's a "style" created by the founder. I smell some BS.>

here is the "history" of Shou Shu according to their site.>

yeah it doesn't sit well with me either.>

Oh I don't actually want to go there, I was just wondering. I live near their Clovis school is all.
They have a few good fighters... granted they're all like 250lbs and 6'5" tall and have only proven that they can take a few hits from guys 100lbs less than them and then push them into the corner of the ring and pound on them.
Not really technique, just dudes on roids.
I went to a sparring session that I was invited to. Sparred against 5 of their top blackbelts and only had trouble with one of them. He had really fast hands and defended really well, but I got a few kicks to the head before landing a roundhouse to the leg to sweep him down and choking him out.>

Sirc, I asked Bloodybirds to check it out for you and he'll get back to you on whether the guys legit or not...>

Any news?>

Yes sir lots of news... for one, why are you posting this here since this story is different than the one you posted over on bullshido?
At least one guy from Moores Karate has called you out, you backed down due to personal reasons, while understandable it would be slightly easier to swallow had you not been telling a different story over at bullshido.
the story here:
Quote: They have a few good fighters... granted they're all like 250lbs and 6'5" tall and have only proven that they can take a few hits from guys 100lbs less than them and then push them into the corner of the ring and pound on them.

the story there:
Quote: I've gone in and sparred 4 of their top black belt students and I really only had trouble with one of them, being their top student and teacher who wasn't making thousands of dollars. He had really quick hands, but I eventually managed to outfootwork him and get a few body roundhouses, a crecent kick to the face and a leg sweep.
Similar but different enough to note that when I fight, I remember the choke out, whether it was 4 or 5 BBs and so on. You remember which type of kick you land but forget how many guys you fought?
How come its a few body shots in one story and few head shots in the other?
The truth will set you free.

good ol' bamboo, the investigator he is. You can't pass by stuff with guys like bamboo, setsu and hengest around......>
Post: Sirc:
My apologies, I made a typo in here about the number of BB's. I already apologized ove on Bullshido as well.
So I'm sorry about that here as well. These sparring matches lasted a long time, how many of you can remember exactly what you do in sparring matches? I remember body shots and a few head shots and attempted head shots, a leg sweep or two and a choke out eventually. Does it really matter how many is state?>

Great work Bamboo.
I personally don't understand why Sirc doesn't have a pink belt yet but....that's just my opinion.>
Post: bamboo:
Its not inportant to remember every detail of your sessions, but if you post on a public forum asking about the credibility of a teacher/system/school and claim you tested them out, then every detail becomes very important.

Agreed.
IMO, he overindulged a bit.
I have known Sirc for almost two years now and have been training with him for most of that time.
I know his experience and what he can do. The idea of him sparring who he says he did and doing as well as he says he did is entirely believable to me. However, I think he might have gotten a little carried away with some of his posts.>

:) I know Moore from Columbus Ohio. Is this the karate dojo you are talking about? He has trained a lot of very good competitors in karate tournaments. I have met him several times and he is a great guy if we are talking about the same people. He has brought people to my tournaments before. I know nothing about the history of the style or even what style they are.>
