Orginal Post: Kyorgi: I was passing by some town on my way to the ocean this weekend when I noticed a school that goes by the name Morningstar Shaolin Kenpo Karate, at first I didnt think much of it untill I thouhgt it about Shaolin? Karate? Chinese? Japanese?......I think its fake, but just want to find out.

Kenpo is almost like what you can call a MMA because I saw somewhere that it meant like this as Kenpo having a little mix with Jiu-Jitsu but I don't really know.>

There is big diferents between Kenpo and Okinawa Kempo. Okinawa Kempo is more similar to Karate and its specific for Okinawa, while Kenpo form north is much diferent ant it could be Kenpo as fist art and Kenpo as sword art. These are two diferent things.>

That's probably Frank Villari's system. He's another one of these guys who advetrises in Black Belt all the time with some hybrid system, calling himself "Grandmaster" and awarding black belts for watching DVDs. If you really want to know more, his site's at:
http://www.villari.com/
However, it could possibly be Ralph Castro's Shaolin Kenpo system, which has a bit more credibility. Apart from the mixing up of Chinese and Japanese in the name (which always bugs the hell out of me) it is a pretty legit, modern hybrid system.>

"Grandmaster Villari also teaches moves of the Immortal Monkey, known for its art of illusion. The Monkey cannot be hit. Its movements are lightning-quick with the ability to change its direction rapidly. It never exhausts its energy and has superior longevity. The monkey is always happy! "

Also just to say that Shaolin Kenpo Karate was founded on the West not in China or Okinawa. Same as Shaolinji Toraken Kempo made up by Ron Cherry or Shaolin Do made up by Sin Kwang The...>

There are two distinctly different styles that use the term "Shaolin" Kenpo or Kempo.
Shaolin Kempo is the term used by the United Studios of Self-Defense. It is a very large chain founded by Steve DeMasco and Charles Mattera who were students of Fred Villari, inventor of the term "McDojo". Villari's lineage is William Chow > Adrian Emperado > George Pesare > Nick Cerio > Fred Villari > Charles Mattera > Steve DeMasco. I have not been impressed by the four local schools I've visited and/or worked out at. Visit http://www.ussd.com/
Shaolin Kenpo is the style of Ralph Castro of Daly City (San Francisco) CA. Castro studied directly under William Chow. Castro is one of the pioneers of Karate in the US and has been around since the 1960's. I've taken a few seminars at Castro's main school and teacher and student are top-notch. I saw this documentary one time. about some big cats. the monkey was jumping around acting like an idiot, and then the cat jumped up and grabbed it. Awesome. monkey deserved everything it got.
Fred Villari has something like, 15 million students, worldwide, so you probably saw one of his studios.>
