I stopped reading after that statement. People that are this absorbed by their (IMO) selfish beliefs can, quite frankly, go to hell.>
Post: 8LimbsScientist:
No, Gong Sao, please read the rest. It only gets more comical.
My fav is the part where he describes the meaning and a brief description of different arts. His description of Karate is the best!>
Post: Gong||Jau:
Wow. I guess I should take up Karate then. It's especially great how the author clearly has no understanding of Taoism or Buddhism, and knows nothing about any of the arts except what they show in movies. Isn't it a sin to watch a movie? Wouldn't that draw your attention away from God? I condemn this man to hell >

Which leads me to a question I've been meaning to ask. My muay Thai instructor always has us practice our kicks by strapping Christian babies to his thighs and having us practice our leg kicks. Does this sound right to you?
Also, sometimes we do this drill where one of us dresses up like the Pope and the someone else has to try and beat him to the ground. I never understood that...why do we need to dress like the Pope?>
Post: Stg:
because the pope looks funny  the babies joke was just wrong man..bad joke on your part
on a related note, this writer is retarded and in no way represents the christian community.[/disclaimer >
Post: 8LimbsScientist:
STG,
Bro, I'm Christian, I know this article isn't a good representation. Thats why I posted it here for communal ridicule  .
And the baby thing was just a joke. We sometimes strap toddlers to his thighs also.>
Post: NeverMan:
I especially love the racist intent.
It's obvious this guy is not only a fanatic christian but also a fanatic racist. The tone in which he makes reference to asians is pretty harsh and the fact that he leaves out the fact that westerners have been fighting since the dawn of time is odd.>

I wouldn't bother. I seriously doubt these people are going to read your email and be like, "You know...he's RIGHT!"
They are close minded and nothing short of God Himself actually appearing and telling them martial arts are ok is going to change their mind. Of course, if that did happen they'd probably say Satan was making them hallucinate.>

Well I wouldnt be so harsh Setsu nin to mate but I am a bit of a liberal. I think this relates to what I have been disscussing on my human antagonism thread, where I feel that individuals who are conditioned by society have a tendancy to cling to fear and develop an obsession for the consumption of fear.
Religion or rather individuals who utilise religion have used fear as a controlling tool for ages. For many extreme or obsessed people I think that the fear itself has become more important than the heart of the matter. Or rather the fear has actually become the heart of the matter.>
Post: binhdinhboy:
this has really got to be some sick, disgusting joke...
"As he enters this ‘ Spirit World; the practitioner believes that this dynamic power, known as ‘Ki’ is actually a force within HIM and that HE is in control. In reality he has entered a realm expressly forbidden by ALMIGHTY GOD, who declares in HIS WORD – THE BIBLE – that this is the realm of demonic power over which Satan – The devil reigns! "
ummm...yes. i see, i think i'll step into the ring and let god take over, he wont let me lose. this heathen opposite of me shall be smitten.
"The man who was responsible for the development of Judo. (Dr Jigoro Kano) found a school in Tokyo called the KODOKAN which means "The Way". This final insult in the face of the Son of God and Saviour of the world JESUS CHRIST who said, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME" (John 14:6)."
if this guy wants to talk about insulting, is he even reading wut he's writing? sarcasm aside this is a pretty ridiculous interpretation of "the way." i simply cannot believe that a person would go so far as to actually think Dr. Kano had intentions of insulting another person's religion. Kano was above that. obviously these guys arent...>
Post: Wilhelm von Wänkensteïn:
"Kodokan" doesn't even translate to "The Way" directly, either - it translates to mean "Ancient Way-style/hall". And the "Ancient Way" referred to here is the retraditionalisation he desired to see in jujutsu, which had fallen into decay and disrepute in his time.>

8limbs Wow! I just registered and have read your texts and already I find out that you're a brother. What denomination? Not that it matters really. We're all fam in Christ.
Personally I find this track pretty lame too. As a Christian myself I think the approach is totally wrong. There are tons of these tracts and the best are in a comics format. They even claim that rock music etc is satanic, even if you would make so called christian rock music with gospel lyrics...
It's how we say in Finland, these guys "throw the baby away with the bading water". I believe martial arts can lead you to the wrong path but it doesn't take MA's to do that. Anything, when it gets between you and God is bad for what I believe but many of those things aren't harmful if you do them right. For some a "bad thing" may be alcohol, co-dependency, unbelief or to some it may be even strict religious christianity wether they acknowledge it or not. I hope you get my point: there are things that can be either good or bad for you.
I personally would not take part in any spiritual excersises (implying to religious ones, mental excersises are a different matter), meditation etc. And I don't think many schools in the west even include them in teaching but in some cases there may be some. I've never heard of such.
I myself practiced Taido, which is just sport basically but I quit because it didn't build me spiritually but I felt it drew my attention into thoughts of fighting and stuff (I never got into any though of which I give credit to Taido. It's true, you practice MA's to not having to fight). So MA's don't fit to me really but that doesn't mean that I would say MA's are sin. Life without Jesus leads to hell but you decide if such and such is good or bad for you.... and it is not a sin to watch a movie :)>

I actually emailed them months ago. I wrote that I was offended, being that I am Christian and this is a perversion of truth. They have not replied to date. :(>
Post: Gong||Jau:
It's not worth their time to talk to foolish, false Christians like you, Bushi - you're going to Hell, so what do they care what you have to say ?
P.S. I realize that that sentence could be extremely offensive if taken the wrong way, so realize I'm joking >
Post: Bushi:
No offense taken. I did expect some sort of rebuttal from them (they do provide an e-mail address), but nothing to date. I guess they think you should take their opinion as scripture.>

Exactly Setsu, from one Christian to another this guy hasnt ever understood a word the Bible speaks.
"Judge not less ye be judged" <I guess he never read that part, the author only read the parts of the Bible that help to make his points valid and take them out of ontext. This is done alot through history.
He's cutting and pasting his version of things and promoting them as truth. Perhaps he hasnt seen the organization I now belong to
www.karateforchrist.com Shiho Karano Jujitsu
we work to install Christian values in our students. The schools are open to all religions but much of what we do is based on Christian beliefs so we have mainly Christian students. People say the Bible is anti-violence. God's wrath is documented in the Bible numerous times. I think violence is ok but only when it is absolutly necessiary. I mean i know of a school that even has a Christianity based version of Ba Men Chaun Fa Tai Chi.
just my 2 cents>
Post: Raftrider:
God, what an idiot. I am so sick of these religion whores telling me if I don't convert to their religion or accept Jesus Christ into my life, I'm going to be punished and be condemed to burn in a fiery pit for all eternity. Who are they to threaten me with that kind of crap? Don't they believe in individuality and freeminds?(I am what you call an "atheist", and before everyone accuses me of being a narrowminded prejudiced jerk for my beliefs, let me tell you that I'm not the type of atheist that you see on the news that constantly whines about seeing religious images or saying 'under god'. Those kinds of things don't bother me. I have respect for ALL religions and if people want to say "under god" and whatnot, it doesn't irk me one bit.)
Didn't the Martial Arts orginate with Tibetian monks and was used as a form of meditation?? :|>

Quote: Didn't the Martial Arts orginate with Tibetian monks and was used as a form of meditation??
Quick answer- no, tibetan monks are among the most peaceful in the world. An indian monk named "bodhidharma/dharuma(brought ch'an/zen to china) is said to have introduced exercise techniques to the monks of shaolin which in turn became the famed shaolin kungfu.
However, MAs go back to as far as war was practiced in its many forms.

That's the David Carrdine version
But yes, the eastern martial arts share a close link with the religions of their native lands that goes back all the way to their origins. The same might be said for some western martial practices at that - sword practice was considered a religious meditation by orders such as the Knights Templar, though from my own limited reading and entirely IMHO, western martial practices don't seem to show quite the same depth of philosophy and spirituality across the board (ie. on average) as eastern ones.>

The two questions I'd ask these individuals are:
1) If someone were raping your wife, would you simply say, "I guess it's God's will. sigh." or
2) Wouldn't it be nice if you knew how to get up and deal with that situation yerself there, Sparky!?
I'd be interested to find out how many years of study in the MA's they put in before rendering such an 'obviously' educated thesis on the topic ( sheesh). Interesting that one of the biggest commands Christians spew is 'judge not lest ye be judged'...yet Christians are the first to violate that one. Even C.S.Lewis (who described himself as the most reluctant convert in all of Christendom) also said that the greatest argument against Christainity is Christians. As a devout Christian, a certified lay-minister (a non-ordained person who performs ministry duties such as pastoral visits and counselling), and having been ordained online, (relax, I'm not going to pass around a collection plate or anything), I've also been been studying MA's for the better part of 15 years. I reconciled a long time ago that God gives us all different gifts, and to some He gave the apptitude to protect those who may not be able to protect themselves. Christ never once condemned the Roman Centurion for BEING a Centurion, rather He blessed him for his faith. And for all those Christians out there who think that non-violence is equal to martyrdom it's time for that holy wake up call: We don't need to be martyred because that was done for us. So it's okay to learn how to defend yourself, and those you love, AND those you don't know who are being abused by some schmuck who feel about martial arts the way these 'Christians' feel-that MA's are for the subjegation of the weak, or the carrying out of darker, misguided objectives. Those among us with honor, integrity (and even faith), know that this isn't the case.>

TheGuardian7,
Well said, I hope other people actually take the time to read your post rather than skip past and just write thier own opinions.

I like how martial arts "lights the fuse to a deadly keg of ?SPIRITUAL, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DYNAMITE!" How tragicly funny. Im not a Christian and I feel bad for the good and decent members of the faith. Notice that they dont aknowledge a difference between Zen and Buddhism. Ooof, I do feel Ive just gotten dumber.>
