European Martial Arts
Post: zefff:
Have you done enough research? Have you read up on and produced a comparison of most arts? What do you think about the question?
One line isnt enough mate. Please remember you have a scrapbook for these things now. ;) We can talk in there.>

Yes, Savatte is great example of European grappling martial art, sam as Shuai Chiao or Judo is great example of Asian striking martial art.>
Post: vladimir:
I read somewhere that strikes are in prevelent in Asian Maritial Arts because Asians tended to be smaller than Europeans and so it was easier for them to deal with a larger opponent by strikes as compared to throws.>

I didn't say all.>

I know that you didnt say all, but most? In my opinion there is no rule. There are thousands striking and thousands grappling styles all over the world. My point was that there is no general rule. The only "rule" that I see in "grappling or striking" discussion is: Against heavy armour there were used grappling techniques and against noarmour there were used striking techniques.>

What's the most renowned Euro style? Boxing.
It's true that there are many European wrestling styles, but it is simply not true to say that most Euro styles are grappling systems.
Check out the thread we made a while back listing Euro styles: http://www.fightauthority.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=866
You'll see from that there are a huge number of weapons styles (particularly stick fighting) as well as striking systems.>
