Hey there Bamboo,
Right on. Sometimes it helps to observe a class too, first. I practice aiki w/a college club, and several of us have brought our friends to class. We usually encourage them to observe first, unless they've already seen a practice.
I heartily agree with the meeting instructors and students part, also =) I did so when I was looking to keep up my TKD skills last summer(since I wasn't near my home dojo). Unfortunately it turned out to be a McDojo, or at least one that wasn't concerned about giving older students a workout.
Anyway, thanks for posting. Good advice for anyone!>
