Orginal Post: MA dude: I was checking through the Look Inside pages on amazon on Jack Dempsey's Get Touph book. I found it mentioning a fighting style called Pier Six. Anyone know anything about this? Here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/158...565#reader-page I am planning on getting the book and maybe it will tell more about the style.

I could be wrong but I don't think it's a style within itself. I think it's just a term to describe a sort of knock down, drag out brawl. Found this at urbandictionary.com:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=PIER+SIX+BRAWL++(PIER-SIXER)>

The book mentions it as if it were a style not a slang world for fighting.>

The book simply says the added techniques from a brutal style called Pier Six which allows many dirty tatics.>

OK, I think I've got it. Assuming you're actually talking about How to Fight Tough rather than Get Tough (which was W.E. Fairbairn), it actually says this:
"These tricks embrace boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu and plenty of the 'Pier Six' style of fighting - the knock-out, drag-em-down type of brawl where no holds are barred, where no foul rules prevail, and where butting, heeling, gouging, and fouls of the most savage kind are among the chief items of attack."
I think when Dempsey says "style" in this instance, he doesn't literally mean an organised combative system. He just means a way of fighting, as in: "The style of fighting in UK pubs has changed over the years." If I said that, I wouldn't mean that all the punters switched from white crane to hung gar!>

"Ha ha ha ha haaaaa! You must.... wanna die.... if you wanna.... see my kung fu! I'll beat you.... in seven rounds.... even with your... broken bottle!">

I think I could deal with a pier six ok, its the idea of getting into a "slobberknocker" with a coupla fellas that just seems wrong on many, many levels.>
