Orginal Post: Fa Jing: Glenn Cozzens is the sifu. He runs a local Shootfighting school. Has anyone ever heard of him? Hong Kong style Wing chun, by the way. Im in Springfield, MO. I cant find anything on him. Im going to see him on Monday so hopefully I can find out who his teacher was, but until then have you all heard of him or his school American Shootfighting Academy?

http://www.wingchun.org/txt/schools/usa/mo.html - he's listed on there, but that doesn't mean he's quality. You could always check out another one of those schools if you don't like what you see and they aren't too far away.>

Actually, this is the only Wing Chun school in the area. Nearest one is like KC, which is acouple hours away.>

Well, go check it out. See if they do real sparring, or if their sparring consists of simply chi sao.
If you find that the school isn't that good, you should look into something else. You're better off learning another art from a good instructor than WC from a crappy one.>

Excellent point. I really think people should just find the best instructor in their area and take whatever art he/she happens to be teaching, as long as that art contains the basic elements you want (i.e. don't take Shotokan hoping to learn knifework).
Also, if you want a quick gauge of the instructor's character, ask him what lineage he is, then bring up another one and ask him what the differences are . You might want to wait until you know him a little better though in case he takes it as some kind of challenge.>

The person that told me he wasnt very good was sigung Vincent Cabais, head of Shaolin Lohan Pai so his standard of "excellent" is probably alot higher than most.>
