Generally in a hand-to-hand combat situation in which the enemy has to be killed, is it usually more effective to strike at nerve motor points and finish off the enemy while he?s stunned or to focus all your attacks at a vital target such as the head or throat as soon as the fight begins? ... For a while now there has been this guy giving me lots of crap about how he wants to kick my ass and stuff like that. Every time now I have been simply avoiding the guy but pretty soon I think it might be time to lay down the fist. Just wondering if you guys have tips for this guy who apparently is known for just all out punching and doing crazy stuff like headbutting and kicking people in the leg ... Chest Press used Effectively
»
Hand to Hand Combat
-
I've been browsing groups and other sites, and I'm going to post some interesting topics I've found. One of them is about the chest press or shove. In many street fight encounters, one of the first things you see people do is the old shove or chest press. Here are few questions regarding it.
Do you think it is an effective technique?
If so, why?
If not, what could make it effective?
Wha ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Warriors of yesterday Vs. Warriors of today????
»
Hand to Hand Combat
-
I was at a dojo "Perhaps a Mcdojo but not sure"? and the "Soke" Sensei
Told his students that he has modified thier style to fit the needs of today.
He went on to say that the warriors of yesterday didn't have problems like we do today (Gang fights, bottles, knives, etc. etc. etc.), so their techniques wouldn't work today like they did yesterday.
Somehow to me that sounds ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

To anyone who lives in the Boston area: I heard that Fox 25 news will be airing some stuff on Krav Maga tonight (2/7/05) at 10pm. I don't know exactly what it will be about but I thought I would share.
I'm going to watch because I'm interested in this art. ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

This is one example where some MMA training would have come in handy. He got the clinch (almost) but had no idea what to do with it. Also, he basically fell into guard, it would be nice if he did something with it.
One other thing...I know its important for him to go for his ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Me and my friend were leaving a party last nite when a guy came up and punched my friend which dropped him to the ground, his head smashing through a sixpack he was carrying. My friend zak was concussed on the ground when another guy took a swing at me which i deflected with my left arm, before i scruffed him and jobbed him in the head a few times. In a matter of seconds the rest of the guys mates ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Real Fight Self Defense Ranges and Combat Takedowns
»
Hand to Hand Combat
-
As stated in my last post: Staying on your feet in a real fight, the double leg and some wrestling takedowns are inherently dangerous. You typically fall to the ground, if you are untrained in takedowns, they are easily defended against, and they can take a longer time to execute. That being said, it is still one of the best takedowns for MMA and grappling. This post is going to be about the ra ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Weight Training Benefits for Fighting
»
Hand to Hand Combat
-
The subject says it all i guess... i'd just like to see people's opinions about training particular muscle groups for close combat street fights, and whether a certain type of weight training is more beneficial when it comes to training for close combat fighting and streetfights. Also, is it better to tone (lower weight, more reps) or strengthen (higher weight, less reps) your arm muscles for a ma ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Which martial art to start with?
»
Hand to Hand Combat
-
Hi, I am 16 years old, 5'7 140 lbs.
I would like to start a martial art, but I am still not sure what I like the best about MA : fighting or tricksters.
Therefore, I do not want to start MMA, nor gymnastic.
I want to get a base about fighting, and then I can choose whether I like the flipping and big kicking part of martial arts, or the fighting (MMA, muay thai, etc.).
The thing is, I ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Hand to Hand Combat

I'd like to start by saying that I've never had "formal" combat-training, but am in good shape and have some experience with sparring and boxing. But not for a couple of years.
For the past couple of weeks I've been taunted and threatened by this guy about my age, my height and my build. He is slightly more athletic and evidently fights more than I do, but we're similiar. I feel as th ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Hi!
I'm Nick and new to this board. I do not have much martial arts experience (1 year TKD several years ago). I don't have much time to take formal classes unfortunately because I do like to lift in the gym too.
Anyhow...
I am very interested in joint locks as well as pressure points for self defense.
I am only 5'7 and a solid 165lbs, but as other shorter guys/gals may know, if you do not k ... Read More at MartialFighter.com
