Brabo Choke Homework: Trigger Position
»
Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu
-
The time I want to show how I’ve redefined the trigger position for myself and what this means to how I’m getting the choke.
For the longest time, I thought of the brabo as only being available when they underhooked me. This is how it’s taught from half guard and when they escape side control. So the trigger position I came up with was “they underhook, I whi ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu

Has anyone read this? I'd like to get a fairly comprehensive BJJ book, because the problem I have right now is that even once I pull guard on someone or gain mount, I often don't know what to do with them once I get them there (besides of course punch them in the face ). I know the basic stuff (triangle, armbar, kimura, etc.), but I'd like to expand my repertoire a little bit so I can m ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Opp to experience Capoeria

Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu

I have an oppourtunity to experience Capoeria first hand. Not just being a by stander, watching. A co-worker's boyfriend trains in Cap and has invited me to watch them play and, if I want, to join them. I am kinda nervous though. His Mestre from Rio came up to Toronto. I was wondering if any of you Cap guys heard of Mestre Derli? He will be leading the class.
Any info wil ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Brabo Choke Homework: Crossing the Arm
»
Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu
-
The next point to cover is how to deal with their underhooking arm.
Like in the triangle, you want to cross their arm. Also like the triangle, it’s not completely necessary, but it’s best form, the cleanest technique and makes for the smoothest finish. They can use that arm to create a little space (so their shoulder doesn’t squash into their neck), or they can do ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu

In my jiu jitsu class we always partner up with someone and with stick to that partner for the rest of the day. The problem is that in my class everyone is about 180 pounds or heavier (except for two 14 year olds that always stick together). My usual partner (also a good friend) is about 190-195 where I am about 135. Are there any tricks to help cope with the weight advantage, I constantly feel li ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Grappling & Jiu-Jitsu

Found this post made by Nathan 'Levo' Leverton when going through some old archived notes. Thought it might be worthwhile discussing it.
"Here is a rough list I made on another forum of what I consider the most important (in order) common grappling moves for good ground fighting:
Positional Escapes
1. Side Mount
correct postures +
a) recovering guard
b) getting to knees (inclu ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

Based on the "900" form questions and answers given, is it safe to say then that shaolin do is not actually a style unto itself but rather several martial arts taught at once? What I am understanding here is that you learn a great many forms then pick and choose what to specialize in; ie- tai chi, baguazhang etc...

What should I look out for as a noob? I already have loads of injuries from standup and now I have added to it with what is feeling like a muscle tear on my ribs. There is no visible bruising but my ribs ache like hell after rolling with a heavy guy on the weekend.
Any advice on how to care for my ribs as well as what other common BJJ injuries to look out for in future would be appreciated. Wha ... Read More at MartialFighter.com

I was just wondering who here uses rubber guard effectively in jiu-jitsu or MMA? what are some tips to using it effectively? what's your favorite setup from there? the eddie bravo vids i watched focused mainly on the omoplata and sweeps from there but I wanted to hear more about setups for triangles if anyone knew a bit about that. though i must say that Eddie Bravo stuff is fantastic, he really e ... I haven't tried this, but it's been heavy on my mind. I've been thinking about back mount escapes. My question is can you pull of Kimura as a back mount escape? If so, any pics or help would be appreciated. I'm playing it over and over in my mind and it seems do-able. I still think that I'm overlooking something though. ... Read More at MartialFighter.com
