Orginal Post: Jan_19: Ok, I got another questions and I come here to ask it because its always a quick answer.

a) Does Push Ups help on developing the chest or it improves just the stamina?

b) In case they develop some chest, What kind of push ups works the chest better?

c) There are many ways to position hands while doing push ups, Open wide, Diamond, close, etc. What works each one of these hand positions?
( like, Diamond position works back, triceps and shoulders )

Jan_19~
I've been doing more and more pushups, and they have developed my chest more than benching. I think it's just the mechanics of my body, not sure if it would apply to everyone. I would say to just use a grip that you would use for a bench press, but it's always good to vary your hand position.
If you go to dragondoor.com, they probably have some good info, and can speak more intelligently than I can.>

Post: bouncer99:

hand position varies which part of your chest the movement targets. Wide hand placement will place more stress on your outer chest and shoulders, while close placement puts more emphasis on your inner chest and triceps. Ultimately, it is best to use variety to develop well rounded stength and musculature. Dont just alter your hand placement, but also the incline. If you wnat more challenge, put your feet up on a chair or some such, as this places more emphasis on the shoulders and the upper chest, which tends to have less densely placed fibers than the lower chest, thus making it much more difficult.>

Post: Tatsukage:

Instead of resting your feet on a chair, simply put the toe of one foot on the heel of the other foot, or even just raise it as high as possible. That way your legs benefit from your pushups as well. Also, your body will feel heavier because your body weight is dispursed through only 3 parts of your body instead of 4.>

Tatsu- Please note the dates on some of the posts your replying to.>

Post: Tatsukage:

I've noticed the dates, but I figured since they were still up, if I had input, maybe someone reading could get a little more info. But, if you wish, I'll keep my posts, as it were, up-to-date. Sorry if the posts made the mod job a little more difficult.>

Post: bamboo:

No big deal. If you have good information to add to an open post then please feel free.>

Post: zefff:

Actually, :P  as far as Im aware there is some discrepancy between practioners who want unorthadox exercises and physiotherapists who dont agree with unbalanced or uneven loading. The fear is that people have a preferance for one leg so as the stronger leg gets stronger and in turn benefits the related side of the body, the weaker side gets weaker and potential distortions may occur.

I dont really care what people do as long as they feel they can handle it but I advocate pressups on chair, against wall, one handed, on fingers etc, as long as there is no preference for one side...so lift one leg, then the other equally IMHO.

peace.>
