Orginal Post: syn1371: I have pretty cut upper abdominals but the lower portion of my midsection has devoloped this layer of "baby fat" that just won't go away whatever I do, some give me some advice please!!

Post: kranker66:

Hang from a pull-up bar, then lift your legs off the ground til there a 90 bend at the waist...do this a number of times and you'll start seeing results.>

Post: dscott:

Lay on your back with your legs straight out. Lift your legs up to about 45 degrees. Do as many reps as you can. Don't let your legs touch the ground though. You should always have some resistance in your abs.>

Post: zefff:

jog-sprinting. A good few sets till you are dead. As early in the day as possible if possible. GET THOSE KNEES UP!

It will be hard though cos its the first place a man puts his fat and the last place he'll lose it from.>

Post: Gong||Jau:

Guys... sit ups (or any variations thereupon) won't make fat on your abs go away. Come on, that's why those stupid ab machines you see on infomercials don't work. The only way to get fat off your stomach (as zefff suggested) is to burn it off. In fact, if you build up the abdominal muscles without losing the fat, it will actually make your stomach stick out more because the muscle will build up beneath the fat. Do some hard cardio (intervals, sprints, stairs, tabata sets, etc) and it will come off with any fat you have anywhere else. It is a hard place to lose though, so don't get discouraged.>

Post: confusingDot:

you can also lie on your back, and hold something heavy or stable with your hands above your head, and do leg lifts up from there.>

He could but, as Gong Jau said, only cardio is gonna get rid of that lard.>

Post: dscott:

I had heard that riding a bike is better for your lower abs than running. Is that true? I know it's better on your joints but I heard it hits your abs better.>

Post: Stg:

nope. riding bikes hits your legs mostly. running uses your whole body. also it is true that cardio burns fat, but ab exercisesaren't totally useless- they still develop your abs :)>

Post: Superflex:

First Upper and lower abs are the sama muscles.
Second try working on the obliques.
Third try dead lift and squat, it will help with over all muscle development, and fat loss.

Good luck>

LIPOSUCTION!!!

Naw, I'm ah keep it one-hunned and agree with those who suggest EXTREME cardio exercises, especially the JOG SPRINTS.

I did those STRENUOUSLY for a month and lost 2 inches of body fat from my stomach; however, it may take you longer, because NOT EVERYBODY IS AS GANGSTA AS ME!!! 8)

Spot reduction is a myth, you must do cardio like an insane viking ransacking a village of penthouse pets. While ab exercises build up your abs, you need a low BF% to even see your lower abs, so unless your gonna be extra strict on diet and exercise, dont worry about. Besides, chicks dig love handles.>

Post: samurai6string:

word to tha berserker. You're just going to have to burn the fat. Genetics is also a huge factor. Look at the other men in your family. If they are barrell chested or have pot bellies and spare tires, odds are your body is trying to do the same thing. I've settled myself to looking like an old Greek blacksmith with a hard round belly but some arms of steel! yah!

Dont eat as much ^_^ i am crazy sometimes because i skip lunch or breakfast>

Post: angryrocker4:

Actually, eat more. 6 times a day. BUT watch proportions.>

Post: Haas:

why eat more ??>

Post: angryrocker4:

Eating less makes your body go into starvation mode, IE it does all it can to hold onto everything you put into it. This is true no matter which bodytype you are.

The more often you eat, the more your body works to burn it. Also, it learns that it is no danger of running out of food, and so it uses only what it needs and sends the rest out, in the form of poo. (I called shit poo lol). You are also not hungry and don't have that "uncomfortably full" feeling as if you ate only 3 big meals a day. But watching portion size is paramount. If theres 3 parts to a meal (meat, veggie, and another side) the general rule is each is palm sized.

Basically it keeps your metabolism running. "Tricks" your body into storing as little as it can. And when you cheat, you are less likely (in my opinion) to retain all the bad stuff, whereas if you're in starvation mode, you keep nearly all of it.

Skipping breakfast is horrible. After waking, your body has used everything in it during the night to recupe and repair itself. Running on empty is a great way to burn the tissue you dont want to lose. This is a catabolic state in bodybuilding terms.

The easiest example I have of this is: the less you eat, the less you poo, the more you eat the more you poo. Pooing is good. You're getting rid of waste (not just extra food), just as in sweating and peeing. If you're not hitting the throne, you are retaining more waste as your body is holding onto everything, both good and bad.>

[quote=Haas Dont eat as much ^_^ i am crazy sometimes because i skip lunch or breakfast[/quote

Naughty, naughty. You really shouldn't do that. If you want to loose weight, and do it with a diet, skipping meals is not a great idea. You should go to small regular meals/snacks (i'd say a maximum between meals of about 4 hours), thus keeping your energy levels up so you are not tempted to binge, also, it is better for your body. Eating less carbs nearer bed time, as obviously, your not going to be burning them off that night. Naturally the meals should be healthy! Although, i saw this thing when they did healthy 80% of the time, and not-so-healthy 20%, which seemed to work out well. And, of course, never skip breakfast, and make sure it is the 'slow releasing energy' kind of carbs.

You probably knew all this, of course! But, just incase you didn't, i figured i'd write it anyway.>
