Orginal Post: kranker66: - Is there a desired number of reps. when lifting weights that will work towards muscle buliding and another for toneing?
-I've have thought that 8 or more reps works well for tone, and 5 or less bulids mass, am I off here on the rep count numbers? and how many sets shold you do? I try and do 3X sets myself, should I do more?
Thanks for your insight.

Typically
Sets of 1 to 5 reps develop strength, less impact on mass and none on endurance.
Sets of 6 to 12 reps develop a balance of strength, mass, and endurance.
Sets of 13 to 20 reps develop more endurance, some to mass, and limitied to strength.
Sets of 20 or more is more of an aerobic excercise.
For toning either lots of reps of weight lifting, or cardio. Cardio would be your best bet for toning.
