Orginal Post: Jack_Vallick: I was training pretty extensively in my local-area gym for a good while. We were competing in boxing tournaments until last week when everything shut down for about three or four months.
It will be back up, but in the meantime all I have at my house is a generic total-body workout machine and a few dumbells.
Does anyone have any experience with crafting something as a substitute for one?
I was considering just punching the hell out of our brick walls, but I can only go steady for about three minutes before my hands go completely numb.

Dont be stupid.>

What are you talking about zeff? I think he should go right ahead and try. I say go punch a brick wall, at least an hour a day. For Three weaks. Are hard as you can to build up punching power. Then come back in a few weeks and tell us how that worked out!!! While you're at it, you should try the same thing for strengthening your forehead, for headbutts. I mean, it can't hurt......right?>

We did the exact same thing in the dungeon (the school).
We'd do three sets of ten punches against padded walls with (heavily-padded) gloves on. It was more just to serve as technique draw and strengthening. I wore the same gloves when I worked on the wall here. No barefisted contact.
But, does anyone have any suggestions to substitute for a heavy bag? I need one to work on, but I'm out of enough money to spend on non-essencials until the end of the month.>

There is no point punching something you cant move or penetrate because then you arent teaching your body to accelerate through the target but to bounce off it.
Only punch walls if you can punch through them because otherwise you are doing counter-productive training. Also the energy rebounding back into your body is not good.
If you dont want to go to Walmart and buy one for 10 bucks why not tie an old car tyre to a tree with rope and punch that?>

Ten bucks? More like at least seventy-to-eighty for a generic one.
I'll try another idea, then.>
