Orginal Post: Umy: Well I decided to make on of these thingy's since my exams are coming up and this way Ill have something to work on when they are over.
So ill start from yesterday:
Got up and did 200 hindu squats and 70 hindu push ups followed by some bridging, almost died, had breakfast.
Had a tough day at college.
Roadwork
Came back went jogging round the old park a few times and around town, about 5 miles (feeble I know :P ), got chased by dogs and drunks and inhaled lots of fumes.
Training
Went to training, usual stuff, 5 rounds shadowboxing, 20 mins conditioning, 4 rounds padwork, 5 rounds bagwork and 3 rounds skipping.
Got some sparring done as well, kicked arse today, first time in a while
Focused on sharpening my right cross in training so emphisised it a bit more on the bags and sparring.
Came home and did a bit of grip/forearm work on the weights (which I havent used in a while) and also used the spring loaded grippers.
Watched a few fights picked up a few things watching some training footage or Tyson.
5 minutes on the slip bag, worked on form and did 5 press ups everytime I got hit by the bag (about 20 times  ), bobbed and weaved till my legs hurt, thats what its all about i suppose  .
Hopefully get some more sparring done tomorrow, need all I can get, also gonna train with some newbies and give them a few lessons
Post: AlexFitNut:
Umy do you do 70 hindu pushups in a row?>
Post: Kyorgi:
What is a "hindu pushup" anyways?>
Post: Umy:
Alex - yeah worked my way from 30 up to 70, still pretty feeble but im getting there
Kyorgi - its a varation of your basic push up:
>
Post: Kyorgi:
Oh yeah we do those in TKD>
Post: AlexFitNut:
I am impressed. I just started doing them and I struggled with thirty, so I just started doing 4 sets of 20 and want to work up to 100 straight. Following hindu squats and pushups with pullups, dips and abs has become probably the most challenging and favorite workout of mine. Here's a link that shows the middle step of the hindu pushup Ky orgy http://www.cbass.com/Furey.htm>
Post: The BadBoy:
I'm up to 300 hindu squats. :) Can only do around 25 hindu push ups though. :(>
Post: Umy:
I just did my 50 there
Anyway here is today, today im just doing some light work, I train 3 days a week in the gym heavy :
Got up and went back to sleep, then got up
Went to see my cousin who is new to the game and we worked on his faults and got a bit of sparring done. Worked on the pads with him, hes coming on nicely.
Did royal court (hindu push ups, squats and briding) started to roll back and forth when bridging, feels like it works my neck a hell of a lot more.
Did a bit of bag work and thats about it for today.
Its actually getting sunny over here  .
Might watch corrie sanders vs vitali klitsko tonite, ill probably end up asleep instead >
Post: The BadBoy:
Umy, when doing neck bridges do you roll side to side aswell. I found that really works my neck.>
Post: Umy:
yeah back and forth n side to side, I always like mixing things up, makes things more interesting
Ive seen tyson move side to side as well, the guy has like a 24" neck >
Post: Gong||Jau:
What do you guys bridge on? I've tried doing them on our floor several times and it just ends up giving me a headache. I swear the dorm floor is concrete covered by 1/8th of an inch of carpeting.>
Post: Umy:
Either a cushion or a towel>
Post: The BadBoy:
Yeah, I use a cushion or pillow.>
Post: Kyorgi:
The floor at my TKD place is about an inch of soft padding so I never have problems with it.>

today:
Woke up and did my royal court (see above entries)
Went to college came back and was feeling pretty crappy.
Roadwork
Today I was shown a lot of hatred from everyone I jogged past, drivers looked at me funny, laughed at me, one woman even went so far as to shouting racial abuse at me, as I took in clouds of exhaust fumes I just kept on going.
After running four miles and walking back home dripping in cold sweat something dawned upon me, that those looks of hatred kept me going, they give me some sick dislike towards others I keep to myself, they dont know how it feels, out running after 7 hours at college whilst 80% of the population your age is out getting intoxicated or sat at home eating and watching television, they dont know what its like pushing yourself beyond physical limitations every other day, I asked myself why I do it, why I put myself through it.
No one ever helped me keep on track, I never recieved any support, sometimes people tried to put me off training.
All that keeps me going, to be quite honest is anger, its quite sad now I think about it, but thats it anger towards others, and by boxing I let it out productively and legally without killing anyone :?
Now I know how Tyson felt.....
ANYWAY
Yeah, came back from my jog and did some bodyweight conditioning, some bagwork and some padwork, basic session nothing fancy.
Didnt skip much just did a bit more shadowboxing than usual.
Killed the bag, quite happy with the quality of my wavemaster, ive had a lot of people punching it and it still fine, one thing I did do in the beginning though was put a few layers of duct tape round the centre of the bag for extra support and its worked a charm so far
Sparring on wednesday hopefully. Ill try and get some done with a few lads so I get a nice variety>

Training (didnt want to start a new thread so left it in here)
Ive had the idea that I might consider coaching boxers in the future.
This idea was made a reality to me today as a 'backyard boxer' I trained picked apart his local rival in a display of skill and hard work.
A lot of people want to 'have their go' when they know your a boxer, this has often meant sparring sessions with lads ive known for 10 minutes in my front room, many of them leave with a lesson in pain, others enjoy the experience and get into the game, one of these lads asked me to train him, at first I thought it was a waste of time, but after seeing the depseration in his eyes I agreed.
Apparently this new 'student' ( ) of mine had been picked apart by one of his peers and wanted to train himself up and beat him, sounds simple enough, a bit of friendly competition cant hurt.
So I gave him a session and wondered if he would return, he did and continued doing so for several weeks.
I taught him the basics and got his fitness up to an average level and then the rest was history, he won his fight.
It wasnt until he thanked me that I realised what a buzz it is, giving others the gift passed so kindly onto you, I liked that feeling more than winning a bout myself.
anyway....
Today
Got up, royal court done, still stuck at same numbers but hopefully they will increase with time.
Got back onto the weights as boxing season is finished soon (not like im fighting anyway  ) and I wanted to put a few pounds on (and I got a new set of dumbells yesterday so wanted to try them out :P )
Today was push day, again nothing intense (triceps shoulders and chest)
I didnt do too much
3 sets of 10 reps - bench press
3 sets of 10 reps - dumbell pullovers
3 sets of 10 reps - side raises
3 sets of 10 reps - front raises
3 sets of 10 reps - millitary presses
Im between each exercise I did a set of 10 push ups
After my short weight routine I did my usual session:
15 minutes of bodyweight conditioning
5 rounds shadowboxing
5 rounds pads
5 rounds on the bag
2 rounds skipping
5 mins slip bag
got some sparring done, 6 rounds, did okay, nothing special
Roadwork done>

Post: Gong||Jau:
Have you been stretching during your workouts?>
Post: Umy:
yeah but its not really my legs just my arms :?>
Post: cross:
Do you work with the double end bag?>
Post: Umy:
I work with the maize bag, heavy bag, lighter bag ( ) and double end bag. If im working at home I work with my wavemaster and wall bag (similar to a small sand bag, my DIY version  ).
As I mentioned above I dont use the speedball as I feel I could spend time more effieciently on the double end bag or pads and im quite happy with my current hand speed, not Bruce Lee or anything but it gets the job done >
Post: cross:
Do you use a slip rope? Kind of like what Tyson used when he was with 'Cus, or what was used in the Rocky Movies.>
Post: Umy:
Yeah, i think they call it a slip bag, read above . Its a pretty handy tool in working wih head movement.
Monday:
royal court
roadwork:
I usually run 4 or 5 miles at a slow pace but have decided to run 2 at a fast pace instead, worked well.
3 sets 10 reps bench press
3 sets 10 reps dumbell pullovers
3 sets 10 reps side and front raises
3 sets 10 reps dumbell flyes
3 sets 10 reps millitary presses
bodyweight conditioning = 15 mins
bagwork:
Worked in close on the bags today, worked on bobbing and weaving and close, tight hooks.
Skipping:
2 rounds skipping
Padwork:
4 rounds on pads>
Post: Umy:
Wed:
royal court
No weights, rest day
Normal boxing routine more or less same as above, hopefully get some sparring on friday.
Focusing on exams.>
Post: cross:
Yeah, I use a slip rope, but when I train... I don't make head movement my major priority, sense I try to duck and weave punches. But, I do work on head movement. Do you do any type of interval conditioning work? I think intervals are helpful, but overrated. Intervals like sprint intervals or step intervals are supposed to get your system to adjust to the varying levels of fittness that is required in a boxing ring. My thing is that intervals don't prepare a fighter to fight for 12 rounds. They just prepare a fighter for the stop and go movement in boxing. I get enough of the stop and go/aerobic and anaerobic exercise through skipping rope and sparing.>
Post: Umy:
Same here really, I used to do a session of short sprints at a local park but now I just mix it up in my roadwork instead, I also suppose it depends on the style of the fighter as well but having the whole pakage in your training can only help you>
Post: Umy:

reflecting on this week (08/05/04) :
After a hard week of college and training ive decided to just reflect on some of the things ive learnt this week.
I must continue to work to the body, I put my sparring partner on canvas this week after continuously popping his mid section with stiff jabs and one lead uppercut, I repeated this for one more round until he got so sick of me going to the body that he started lowering his hands, at this point I could literally pick the shots I wanted to land.
I have also noticed just how beneficial it is to use the shoulders when in close, especially against timid or defensive opponents, ramming a shoulder into their chest will either knock them back against the ropes or at least take away a bit of their strength and only requires little effort compared to a normal push and its also pretty easy to conceal after a combination.
I have also been practicing a certain combination that has done wonders for me in the past few weeks, its simply the jab-cross- left hook.
You see when you throw a cross your body is automatically in a position to throw a more powerful left hook as you lead hand suddenly becomes your rear hand (hard ro explain in text  ).
Well there is just a couple of thoughts for this week.>
