Orginal Post: Li Shen Long: I keep hearing that in order to lose weight, you need to eat "healthy" foods. Well, I'm wondering, what would you guys consider to be healthy foods? If you don't mind, would you guys make a list of some healthy foods, so I can just get the stuff the next time I go grocery shopping? Thanks in advance.

Get green veg, brown rice, complex carbs, fibre, oily and meaty fish and poultry, semi or full skimmed milk, fruit, water.
Stay away from alchohol, processed foods, microwave meals, fast food, sugar, salt, chocolate, cheese.
Im dont really know anything about nutrition but I do okay if I stick to the above.>

Complex carbs? Could you be more specific? And also, is green tea healthy for you?>

In my opinion just food wont help you, you will lose weight, but soon you will get all back and more. What you need is physical activity. My advice to you is go and run, its best to lose weight. Go and run five days per week, one day swim and one day rest.
About health food? In my opinion it all depends. Vegetables is good, but what if its planted near some road and full of lead and other toxics? ?Healthy? food can be full of toxic substances. In my opinion its most important that you know where from come your food. Also its important where you live. If you live somewhere where is summer all year than fat food wont be good for you. If you live somewhere where is winter all year than fat food will be good to you.>

No no, setsu, I know about the exercise. I'm talking about "strictly" food for now, that's the only thing I'm uninformed about. Okay, so vegetables is good, fish is good...
I don't know, I was just hoping for a list of some kind, like zefff's but naming foods instead of nutrients.>
Post: zefff:
Okay Setsu I will add it to my list
...stay away from veg grown at the road side!
but seriously setsu is correct about knowing where your food comes from and getting as much information about its origins as you can. If it is fish, are they farmed? If its poultry, what were they fed and how did they live? If its veg, are they GM? Any pesticides? Things like that.>

I follow a roughly macrobiotic diet but skip the meat. I find that simple foods , grown in my area and not to excess have kept me in decent shape.
For me its-
1.miso soup, whole oats for breeakfast , sometimes whole wheat bread with natural peanut butter/honey
2. good salad (no lettuce), wild rice and veggies at lunch
3. Combination of 1 and 2 for dinner but usualy enjoy a noodle soup as well. My wife makes AMAZING sushi, so thats also a big part of our diet.
I also enjoy beer, the odd pizza and treats in moderation.
I avoid most nightshades with the exception of potatoes and the odd tomato sauce ( I make and can my own from local grown, organic roma tomatos), but again enjoy these in moderation.
I love Italian foods but ( as with my nightshade comment) do it in moderation.>

Heres my powerlifting diet if you want specifics, its clean:
Celery
peanut butter (natural)
wheat bread
skim milk
steak (lean cut)
chicken (no fried crap, bake, grill, or bbq only)
tuna
salmon
turkey
carrots
califlower
apples
banannas
orange juice
cranberry juice (cheat)
broccoli
chedder cheese (cheat)
pineapple
grapefruit
provolone cheese
and for condiments, stay away from anything over 70 calories per serving (my diet thing anyway), cause that usually means theres alot of "synthetic" stuff. Ketchup mustard, bbq etc are okay (the basics), mayonaisse is alright once in a while.
Also, look for these 2 words "corn syrup", theres like 3 different kinds of corn syrup, but if anything has those two words in it its gonna hurt your goals, unless its a cheat day.
Remember your body will adjust to your reduced calorie thing, so you gotta shake up your program about 7 weeks in. go to www.bodybuilding.com for some excellent research and super high quality advice though.>
