That basically sums it up.
Processed stuff is really bad for you, especially processed (refined) sugar, don't use it.
Eat a good amount of leafy greens and whole grains, you will notice a significant increase in sustained energy levels, plus by avoiding sugar you can help avoid diabetes.
Personally, I try to stay away from fatty meats. I try to keep my Saturated Fat intake under 10% (of my total fat intake percentage), which is usually easy unless you dive into a nice piece of red meat.
Also, avoid Trans fats. These are worse for you than Saturated Fats.
Fats: Oils are good (Olive, Canola, Sesame), but don't let them smoke if cooking with them, they turn to trans fat at high temps.
Carbs: Whole grains non-processed. I really love Barley. It's as soft as rice if cooked correctly and also very tasty. Bulger is good as is non-processed Couscous.
Protein: I try to stick with Fish (Salmon, Tuna), Shellfish (shrimp), and Chicken (no skin), but sometimes red meat just tastes good but I trim all the fat off.
I don't use heavy dressings high in fat, instead I intake a large amount of sodium (which isn't really good for you but better than heavy dressing). For example, I use a lot of Hot Sauce, Soy Sauce, Garlic Powder, Crushed Garlic, Onion Salt, Black Pepper, Fish Sauce, Vinegar, Oils for taste.>

Yeah i would write more but i got to run, my advice is to stay away from sugars. They serve no purpose and are inherently bad for you. This also means no soda. Also drink a lot of water.>

the sugar thing is easy for me. i dunt drink soda at all. i love carbs too and have a pretty quick metabolism. its just my eating recently hasnt been very clean. thanx for all the advice guys. much appreciated.>

Drink LOTS of water, thats my best advice.
At least 8 glasses a day.>

Basically, with maybe one or two exceptions, the less something looks like it did originally (i.e. white bread vs. wheat plants), the less good it will do you. Also remember that white flour and rice are bleached which removes a lot of the nutrients and makes them more or less "empty" carbohydrates. Oh yeah, and artificially carbonated drinks are horrible for you.>

You may eat anything you whant, just be moderate. If you whant real helth food widouth pesticids, genetic crap, unnatural things... finde some Amishs (sp?) that will sale it to you. You may buy 100% natural food from them.>

don't buy junk>

follow the food pyramid to a T. lots of water. you can buy heath meals and soups at the grocery store, you don need to go out of your way a whole lot to eat healthty and they taste good too. stay away from fast food resturaunts, almost EVERYTING they offer is terrible for you, even if it normally would be healthy, they add crap to it to make it taste better ie; fat, procced sugar, grease, the chicken sandwches are ok though. vatamin c is very important aswel, get pills for it unless you REALLY love oranges. take multi-vitamins and knox gelitane (glucosamine fortified) its really good for your knees. every now and then eat a little salt, salt is the best anti-histamine there is. alot of things you get at the store have procecced sugar in them, even ketchup  , so make sure you read the labels...6 grams is ok, but not much more than that. also, the amish idea is very good, do that.>

well i dont buy junk food and i rarely ever eat out. i know everything i eat, i pack it all. i eat a lot of rice and chicken so its pretty lean. thanks for the advice guys.>

jerbo: the rest of that advice is pretty good, but the food pyramid is pretty dated and isn't really that accurate of a guide.>

oh....how come?>
Post: Gong||Jau:
The biggest problem is that it's very broad; for example, it doesn't differentiate between types of fats or oils or poultry vs. red meat. Also, there's a bit of a controversy over whether or not it recommends too many carbohydrates servings (Atkins dieters not included), especially since it doesn't say anything about simple vs. complex carbs or whole grains vs. bleached. I haven't really done any deep research into this topic, but there's a book that's either out or coming out soon by a nutritionist from Harvard on this exact topic. Article>
