The pain that you feel is from the force of the punch, and the force of the punch depends on the mass (body weight) that is put into the punch and the speed of it. So the fact that you feel more pain from a faster punch thrown by the Shaolin practitioner simply proves that logic (assuming there's no massive difference in body weight being put into the punch). Apart from that, the target of the punch also makes a difference. A punch to a pressure-point area will be more painful than a punch to an area with hard bones and meat or muscle. The force you apply to push someone back or down should be smaller than your full-powered punch because you have lower speed (back to the F = m x a formula). But the way you apply it is different, as your purpose is to use the force to make the opponent lose their balance. To push someone backwards, for example, you'll spread your force to a wider part of your body (e.g.: two open palms) as opposed to focusing it on one fist. Power is actually more related to the amount of energy required to perform the Force rather than the impact of the force. Power is usually formulated as; Power = Strength x Speed Strength is often formulated as "the ability to exert a force against a resistance" Strength is then broken down into 3 subcatagories; Maximum strength - the greatest force that is possible in a single maximum contraction Elastic strength - the ability to overcome a resistance with a fast contraction Strength endurance - the ability to express force many times over Bruce Lee is the Father of Modern MMA.
