I do three type of padwork drills with my athletes.The first is slow,stop and go and is technical.No rounds,or time.Just work over the course of 60 minutes on new combo's,fix up old combo's or teaching new strategy.The second is power striking and recovery position with me attacking back steady and slow.The three C's are at the priority.Catching,checking and countering punches and kick:Depth of shoulder,and hip placement at a premium.This last padwork drill that we are doing in this video is the phycological "shazam" confidence workout.Emphasis is on speed,and accuracy of the count combination.The rythem and beat of fight movement.The hype of being fast and spectacular.The cant get it wrong rythem.The non thinking,on automatic im a machine from another planet! Some coaches have mentioned they would like to see more turn of the hips,or even extension comittment of the shoulders.In my method,this would be in the other pad workouts.Eventually the athlete will be able to pick and choose the moments which call for this comittment of movement.I have found over the years coming close to the end of a fight camp this has been one of the key successes in building confidence and greatness in those i have taught.
