In this video I show a common Quarter Guard Sweep, the Wing Sweep. I see a lot of people play the QG (Quarter Guard) position but only as a stalling position to get their opponents weight off of them. The QG can be good defensively, but it can also be amazing when used to set up offensive movements as well. The trick to the Wing Sweep is getting your opponents hand fed across your body. This is by far the most difficult aspect of this move and it may be almost impossible, depending wheat type of Half Guard your opponent is playing. I find it is easiest to get when your opponent is basing up with the majority of their weight on their heels and using that hand to post on your hip. Placing the hand on the hip is a common response when your opponent is an Under Hook player and was not successful in getting the Under Hook. When this scenario happens to me (and I'm on top) I posture up, place my hand on the shoulder/hip and reset the position. In this case, the wing sweep is awesome! Once you have the hand fed across your body use your free hand to grab ahold of your opponents belt or grab deeply into your opponents far armpit. Whichever grip you take it is important to make sure your body is tight and connected to your opponents. Make sure that when you connect your body to your opponents that you sit up off of your rib cage, this sitting up motion will give you the ability to rock and create momentum.
